Time for a review...
This was my first time at COBRA, and I fell in love the second I walked through the door. The bottle service booths took up a good amount of the dancing space, but no big deal, I loved dancing on the elevated levels (or risers? is that you call them?) and spent most of my time there. Being so tall, I already tower over most people, but I had a much better view when I was up there. It was amazing to watch the crowd get into it together. It's such a great space. You can go with a bunch of people, look around you, and always see someone you know having a great time, smile on their face, dancing away. Being such an intimate space, I think it's a great place to meet new friendly faces as well.
Wow, the ceiling. This feature of the club blew my mind. I love visuals, lasers, lights, videos, anything (when done right), and this ceiling is absolutely beautiful when it's going off full tilt. When all of them come on and the room lights up one color, then fades so nicely, it's like the color lingers on everyone's faces for a second or two.
The sound in the club was great on Friday, everything sounded crystal clear and warm while still loud. the sound really gets under your skin in there, it's awesome. Getting goosebumps thinking about it.
As for the actual party, the night started off great with the opening DJ's. I have no idea who they were, but I have to say they definitely warmed the place up very nicely on what was a pretty chilly night. I really enjoyed their set. They got me moving, and I didn't stop once the entire night. Definitely an indication for me of how good it was.
Then Derrick Carter came on. I thought his first hour and change were good, but not that good. He certainly had great 'moments', but maybe it was just his way of building up to a really strong hour and a half from maybe 2:00 - 2:30 onwards? The track that Jay had posted earlier in this thread was the pivotal point for me, where the night reached another level of awesome.
I don't know what version of la la land by Green Velvet he played, but I freakin' loved it. It was so acid house-y. Also, if you've ever watched the documentary 'pump up the volume' it felt like he was playing tracks right from the part that documents Chicago house. I was really impressed.
Looking at the photos from the night, the big wide grin on my face reminds me of how much fun this was.
When the right DJ comes along, I'll always be at COBRA in a heartbeat, looks like the next night out is for Jon, Jeff, and Andrew.

For where we were standing on the left, I agree. The right side of the DJ booth was far too loud with too much bass for my liking.
