Hi Guys,

Looking for some inspiration for good intros into a set you have used.

Dont usually go for them but im playing in a the dj comp and thought I get intro before the 1st track would go down better or a good intro track with just melody or something at the start.

My style is going to be tech trance/house and trance.

Cheers :)

Sorry to be so harsh, but selecting tracks is your job as a DJ.

as an INTRO, i used a movie quote from Blow where he talks about how to keep calm "when smuggling drugs arcoss the border...". I played the opening track along side it & made sure that the quote completed just before the first beat of that track kicked in (~24seconds).

I tried for the rest of the prog-house set to keep the drug theme throughout the next hour w/ the compatible songs i had in my collection.

Otherwise you can use acapela songs to open a set with, or ANYTHING that doesnt have a beat.

woscar you cant listen to whole tracks before you buy them so its impossible for one to tell if there is the kind of intro the thread starter was looking for...

i think its a good question

what i usually do is buy a bunch of tracks and hope one of them has a cool intro lol

Of course you can.

It's your job as the DJ to figure out what makes some songs good for opening a set and what songs those are.
djimmersion
you could start with a track's accapella and mix it in with its full mix or instrumental like i did for a mixtape i posted online

DJ Smokie is the handle I now use

i usually end up with more tracks suitable as an intro than i play gigs. and i still repeat some of them. what's the deal? ;)

Hey tart I was just thinking... If u find a song on beatport or wherever and want to know if there is an intro go to YouTube and type the song in there. On beatport it says how long the track is so on YouTube look for a video which is the same length (a lot of the YouTube vids just have the main part of the song not the whole thing).

Hope that helps..

Ps: in reference to an earlier post: what site can you listen to whole track before u buy it?

dj_macgyver
i think djdownload.com will let you do so, even if you can't listen continuously.

I went for John O'Callaghan - Space and Time Intro mix.

Thanks for all the input guys. I know its my job as a dj to pick the tunes, but was just wanting some advice on some cool intros.

When I DJ in a club I always mix the first track in but as it was a competition that wasnt going to be an option.
