Hey everyone, I have a celly question for you tech heads out there. I'm on Bell and have a SCH-U740 (double-flip). I know its old but I still love the phone. Anyway does anybody know how to get custom ringtones onto this phone or bell phones? How can you download songs from the web browser on the phone to use them? I tried uploading my custom ringtones onto sites like zippyshare or speedyshare and I can't figure out how to download them onto the f**king phone!

Worst part is I hacked the phone before with EFS Explorer and got my custom ringtones on, but I broke it and they sent me a brand new U740 and this time i can't hack it.

Can anyone help??

im pretty sure you need to "hack" any bell phone in order to use custom ringtones.
you probably cant hack the new phone because they upgraded the firmware.

edit: im not a bell customer nor am i a cell phone geek so i could be totally wrong here. im just guessing.

If you can't do it, then you'll have to debrand the unit ... that's diff ball game.

Of course I tried google. That thread is what I used to hack the phone a year ago but for some reason, after I got a new phone, but same model, I can't hack it again hence me asking basically how to use the Bell web browser to download mp3s onto the phone.

Debrand it then, that's the only solution I can think of when a carrier locks up all the functions.

You're going to want to change companies if you want to use custom ringtones. I'm sure there's some way to hack the unit and make it work, but for the average user (AKA: You and Me), it's easier to just tell Bell to suck a nut and change to another carrier that will allow you free reign on customizable content for your phone.

Bell locks you into using their specific browser for phone-media, which really sucks. I was a Bell customer for 3 days when I got my first cell-phone, then I canceled my contract because I couldn't use the ringtone I wanted.

Got a free mini-fridge out of the deal too!

You can download off your phone browser, I have the same phone and spent countless hours trying to do what you want to accomplish....no luck other then this option:

Make or download a ring tone in mp3.
go to http://rumkin.com/tools/sprint/
when asked what your SMS address is type in your cell number plus @txt.bell.ca

example: [email protected]

Then follow the instructions on the site.....only thing is you need to pay for the 100-200 bytes you download off the browser...which is cents for me
