| If anyone knows the lyrics in "The Drive Home" in FFTMC around the 5:42-5:44 mark, that'd be interesting to know. |

the original demo featured a direct sampling, but for the released version nick had maire brennan (of clannad) resing her part. |

| First album is brilliant, but it's got progressively worse down the years. |

He wasn't allowed to release it officially with a direct sample and thus Máire Brennan re-recorded her parts.
That's why it says featuring Máire Brennan and why she is credited on vocals.
It's not a sample.
I love both FFTMC and Behind The Sun, but after that he's gone to hell. He hasn't released anything good since 2000 =/ |

ok, so we are arguing about technicalities here, then ok. technically it is still a sample. he didn't use the original recording, but he still used the song.
for instance sugarhill gang sampled chic's 'good times' for 'rappers delight' however, sugarhill gang had a band to redo 'good times' as close as it got. does the track sample 'good times'? yes.. |

I would say it's a sample since it was originally taken from another source. The fact that Maire resang it for the official release doesn't change where it derives from.
It's the same scenario when Eric Prydz sampled "Steve Winwood - Valerie" for Call On Me. When Winwood heard it he liked it so much that he recorded the song for Prydz. |
