A program for making re-edits of tracks

Yes, I know this thread could be better suited to the production studio, but I'm afraid to ask anything there as it's a scary place! And I mostly want DJs input on this one anyway as I'm no producer (I couldn't produce a track even if my life depended on it). :nervous:
But I would really like to do some simple re-edits of many tracks that I have. Mostly rearranging bits of them, removing some parts, mashing together stuff from 2 or more different tracks, changing and matching tempo (time stretching), sample precise looping, stuff like that.
Some of the stuff I want to re-edit is recorded from vinyl, so the tempo isn't constant like on 100% digital files. Therefore good beat detection would be really helpful too. Something that could help me line up the stuff 100% precise even though the tempo isn't 100% precise. I dunno if either of these programs have that. :eek:
So far I've done all my re-edits with a basic wave editor, like Audacity or Sound Studio now on OS X, but it's mostly rather ing tedious work and takes ages to do even some simple stuff. So I'm looking for something easier and more versatile.
I've thought about Logic Studio and Ableton Live. I guess Ableton would suit my needs nicely, but I've tested it out about a year or so ago and I couldn't understand how it worked, at all. So now I'm thinking if maybe Logic would suit me better for what I want to do or some other app that works on OS X and is versatile and easy/simple/fast to use.
It's probably very hard for anyone to actually know exactly what I want from the program (I don't even know that 100% myself), but what I really would like to know is how well suited are these programs for re-editing stuff (more than simple looping really), but not really producing any new sounds and what alternatives there are that I haven't discovered yet.

Rather than move the thread i'm still going to copy it to the production forum as i do think you need to ask this question over there as well.
This way you'll get input from both the dj booth and production..

I do everything you described there all the time. For that, I love using Ableton LIVE.
Everytime I used to open the program I used to just stare at it with a WTF ! lol Very intimidating. But one day Mike Lord sat down with me, showed me the basics, and from there on it was a piece of cake. |

Ableton Live is the way to go. It took me a freaking long time to get used to it. One day it just seemed to click for me and it made sense. For little edits and whatnot, it's great. |

+1 for Ableton...i recently switched from Live 7 to Live 8 and am pretty happy with the new re-designed warping so far.
For re-edits and mashup's Ableton is the way. |
