Funny thing is most trance haters were once devout trance lovers.

It's sometimes true with people around me. Not really the case for me, i never liked "modern" trance. the trance i was listening to in the mid 90's was more a psy trance. Oliver Lieb had a project called Spicelab that was really cool. I liked anything by Eat Static and some of the trance that was coming out of the Sven Vath label but we're talking about maybe 93 to maybe 97 ?

music is an emotion, you hear it, you feel it, you like or not.

Music style is not a factor.

If it is a factor, you are like an american who says i don't need to speak anything else but english, everyone speaks english... Poor americans, on how much culture are they missing out... then they wonder why people hate them. This is not refining, it's being closed minded.

There is terrific stuff in every style and for different tastes.

Some languages just roll off the tongue better than others (Spanish sounds sweeter than English). And yes, I speak 3 languages just like I have exposed myself to trance, techno and house. I have made a choice and that choice is house. I have made this choice through exposure and not ignorance. So careful who you call an "American".
BubbleBat
It is much better to be a trance haters than an American haters

Come on Francis you can do better than crappy generalization about Americans. They're closed minded people in Québec just as much as anywhere else, its a human thing, not an American thing
WittyHandle
I'm an American, I understand that Francis' metaphor only applies to some Americans, and he's right.

(I studied French for 5 years, it's not my fault they didn't teach me that Quebecois was a completely different language :( )

Interesting. And what objective criteria are you using to determine that trance is less refined, than, I am guessing, house music?

trance is a stepping stone, whatever.
