I suck..I only got 7.

I'm not worried though, I would venture to say that I have read over a thousand books in my lifetime..:D

mine would be 75% in fantasy series :D

(and a few select authors... MICHAEL CRICHTON, John Lescroart, John Grisham, John Case, Greg Iles)

If it was just fantasy, I bet I'd win.

(Though you and Mars would challenge me strongly!)

EDIT:

Just notice you mentioned "historical fictions" ... So have you read any of Harry Turtledove's works??

I'm read up to the 5th book in his "Darkness" series... one more to go.

But thats not the historical fiction I mean (to quote: "The Darkness Series is a series of six fantasy novels by Harry Turtledove. Though a fantasy the general history, geography, and combatants are analogs of World War II, or the "Derlavai War" in this universe. Many of the characters are also the equivalents of historical people. Magic and other fantastic beasts, like dragons, are also stand-ins for World War II technology. Important battles in the series are also based on famous World War II battles, like the Battle of Sulingen which is an analog to the Battle of Stalingrad.)

Have you read is "re-telling" versions of historic events... my old roommate in uni HIGHLY recommended those novels when he found out i was reading his other work... (his other mess isnt my kinda thing though)

To quote again, "Turtledove has been dubbed "The Master of Alternate History". Within that genre he is known both for creating original alternate history scenarios such as survival of the Byzantine Empire or an alien invasion in the middle of the Second World War and for giving a fresh and original treatment to themes previously dealt with by many others, such as the victory of the South in the American Civil War and of Nazi Germany in the Second World War. His novels have been credited with bringing alternate history into the mainstream. His style of alternate history has a strong military theme with scenes of combat happening throughout many of his works."

^^ Just thought you may be interested in case you'd never heard of him before now.

Cheers
Yohan
turtledove did a lot of fantasy. that's how i came across him ;)

but yeah. turtledove is very good

if you can get hold of it, find krispos and the lost legion series. both are very good. i think krispos series got a reprint so might be available at chapters or online

Grand Total: 70

I really hope this list isn't ranked in order from best to worst. That would be a joke. Some of the books above should not even be considered classics.

OVER A THOUSAND?

If you were to read 1 book per week for every week of the year, you will have read 52 books a year. To have read a thousand books, means that you must have--AT LEAST--read 1 book per week for 19+ years. you say you've read OVER a thousand?

If it's true, I'm genuinely impressed--what sorts of books do you read?

Grand Total: 22

I've read many hundreds of books, but only 22 of the "classics", it seems.

As for reading over a thousand books, I can believe it, I've had days where I've sat down and read an entire Sword of Truth or Wheel of Time book (700ish pages each, give or take a hundred). I read 1984 in one sitting as well, and then re-read it a few times so that I knew where to look for things when the inevitable school assignments were dropped on us a few days later. Hell, I JUST read "The Little Prince" before finishing this list lol, took about 50 minutes.

Talk to me!

SOT is my favourite fantasy series of all time (Mord-Sith are my favourite characters ever created! And Richard, Kahlan, Nathan Rahl, etc -- wow! What legendary characters). And, obviously, WoT is bloody brilliant and epic too. :D
