I would probably also have to include anyone who cannot reproduce (so women who hit menopause sorry gone) and also anyone with deformities. I would want to do a mass execution of probably 50% of the population of the world and then start repopulating. |
Whoa, slow down Hitler. |

Hitler had the right idea but he let human emotion get in the way of really getting things done. Hitler has nothing on me. |

am kind of baffled by the number of young people dying as of late.
its just a weird coincidence/horrible reality that a long life is never guaranteed. THAT is the reason for my news-sharing. nothing more, nothing less. |

NO people are dying in africa, what the f*ck does that have to do with my concern over young people and their habits (which is clearly a growing problem in and of itself??)
God forbid I make a post about young people dying and how strange it is to be reminded that life can be so short. |
Young people dying as of late eh?
That would baffle me as well. Except for the fact that since the early 70’s the crude death rate, the child morality rate, and even age specific death rates amongst young adults in North America have been DRASTICALLY DROPPING--and still dropping at an incremental rate. You must have missed this tiny piece of information when you were reading "a hundred books on Africa."
So what exactly baffles you? Because a quick glance through the UN and UNICEF fact sheets will confirm that death amongst young people is dropping. Or you can employ a little common-sense: if we understand that the Earth’s population is SIX TIMES what it was 100 years ago, coupled with the consequent fact that the birth rate is almost DOUBLE the crude death rate; it seems to suggest that, generally speaking, there is nothing irregular going on with young people dying; especially in North America. However, if you want to examine (for instance)--specifically--the rise or fall of death amongst celebrities over the past ten years due to drug-overdose; then you might say that there is a rise of young celebrity deaths caused by drug-overdose as of late.
However, even if that turns out to be true; my point stands: I don’t need dying celebrities to remind me of how "life is never guaranteed." I’m not ten years old. I know that "life is short." I don't live a sheltered life. I don’t need the death of a celebrity to keep me on my toes and grateful for what I have. It is because I understand that often in our over-privileged Western society, more media attention is paid to celebrity deaths than world-conflicts; like the current situation in Iran. So these "young celebrities dying." Like I said, one goes down and 10 more will pop up in his or her place. Because when you consider everything that’s going on in the world, celebrities deserve as much sympathy as a dead mosquito. |

I love how I obviously shut you up with my last post, because instead of reponding in kind, you threw numbers at me like I could give a . How foolish of you. :haha:
Based on the fact that you are throwing out random info from the UN, it is clear that you have entirely missed the point of me opening this thread.
I didnt say that it was strange that young people were dying, I said it was strange to often be REMINDED THAT LIFE IS TOO SHORT.
One does not have to be "sheltered," because in reality, one does not think about their mortality on a daily basis. And with that, sometimes it is a jolt: these reminders often snap you back into the reality that life is never certain.
You do not walk out the door to work everyday, thinking that your 25-year old girlfriend/sister/cousin will die, but once in a while it does, and its a normal human reaction to feel even worse that that young person dies because they havent lived their "whole life."
With that being said: I dont give a about numbers. I am AWARE that the total death count for young people in North America is decreasing.
I also dont give a about celebrties. I am AWARE that celebs often live ridculous, overly-priviledged life styles that often lead to poor decision making, and often, death. Do they deserve to die because they make wrong decisions? Thats subjective, because how many people out there do drugs, recreationally or not, and DONT die?
What i DO care about is that there seems to be too many young people dying from drug use and poor life-style decisions. Its a problem!
I also care about the the people in my OWN life, who have passed away for whatever reason, way too early. The stories on young celebs dying are just supplements to the REAL emotion I have felt to people close to me passing WAY to early. Or did you miss that part?
    |

Let me get this straight:
You say you are "baffled by the number of young people dying as of late."
I respond by showing you statistics which confirm that there is nothing baffling or surprising about the number of young people dying.
And your response is that I'm throwing out random numbers?
:stongue:
But wait! that's not even my favourite part--this is my favourite part of your argument:

She means baffled as in how it's brought to light more consistently as of late. (she clarified this in her previous post).
Relax man! Whatever happened to the laid back guy at Nat's BBQs? :p |
