i don't mind fixing computers for friends/family but there are a few rules.

#1 - you bring the computer to me
#2 - you stay with me while i fix it. i don't want to sit there for 2 hours by myself while your slow ass computer reinstalls windows.
#3 - bring beer!

You know, that's actually not bad. I'm surprised that I never really thought about it that way. I know I can't ask friends or family for money for that crap, but I don't think I'd feel any guilt whatsoever in insisting on a barter system. And after the 5th beer or so, I won't really care how much time I'm wasting.
