| quote: | Formation, the debut LP from Wareika, will see a release through Danish imprint Tartelet later this month.
Eskimo Recordings, Future Classic, liebe*detail, Motivbank, Connaisseur, Delusions Of Grandeur—the list of labels Hamburg trio Wareika have recorded for since their formation back in 2008 is pretty impressive, to say the least. For their debut album outing, however, Jakob Seidensticker, Florian Schirmacher and Henrik Raabe have chosen to return to the home of their "Ascending/Descending" release last year, Tartelet Records. Although released back in April '09, the EP did in fact serve as a cloaked primer for their album proper, as both tracks from the 12-inch make an appearance on Formation. Elsewhere expect a live version of previous Eskimo single "Men Village," ten minutes of jazz improv on "One Nation," and dancing "in a circle around a campfire" for "Facing The Sun."
Overall, field recordings, human voices and instruments are all said to be key themes of the record, which figures given the group's "ensemble" approach to the recording process.
Tracklist
01. Men Village (Live Version)
02. Ascending Descending
03. Baracuda
04. One Nation (Album Version)
05. Facing The Sun
06. Riders On The Storm
07. Burnin'
08. Prelude
09. Belongin
Tartelet will release Wareika's Formation in January 2010. |

Easily my favorite producers of 2009. It has been a while since I've been excited for an artist album. |

| Werd, I dunno if they are my favorites from 09 but they definitely are cultivating what I think is a pretty unique sound. |

| Just checked it out today, and I'm really, really digging it. Like most albums it has its dull points (Barracuda), but overall I have nothing bad to say about it. They have a very unique, funky, groovy sound to them that I absolutely love. Stand out tracks for me have to be Men Village, One Nation and Riders of the Storm. Serious "WTF!?" moment gets awarded to the surprise appearance of what sounds like Kumbaya. |
