Having problems with dropping levels of beat

Ive been working on this track on and off for about 2 months and am at the point where I am at the midpoint of the track and I want to fade out the beats so I can create a sweep and introduce a new element to the track.
What keeps me from going forward is when i have faded out the levels for my kick and snare, it all goes slowly down to nothing audible. Shortly after though, some kind of beat comes back in and i cant seem to turn it off. I have an audio clip of what is happening.
