Sonalksis sidechain in Cubase 5

I just got Cubase 5 and i love the ease of sidechaining now where all i have to do is insert a cubase compressor and turn on the orange sidechain button and then the function will show up as a possibility for sends. However, is it possible to do this with sonalksis sidechaining function? when i turn on the SC button on the compressor, sidechain does not show up on the send that i want to use as trigger. it seems only to recognise the Cubase compressor. I would also like to do the same with the sonalksis gate plugin.
I hope i dont have to do it the old way, ie. set up a quatro channel and route send to the bottom, and the sound to be sidechained to the top of the Quatro track..
Hopefully you can help |

| Sidechaining only became an official function in VST3, which was introduced in Cubase 4. Basically all plugins (including the Sonalksis ones) are still VST2.4, so they use the old hacky way of doing it. This was never supported by Cubase, except via the quad channel method. |

| Use the included Compressor plugin -- sounds great for sidechain. |

is there a vst that allows it to be easily done like that?
i use fl studio and it really wasn't made for side chaining. |

| Thats a shame about vst2. But anyway, unlike Cubase SX 3, when I route the Send/Trigger to the Quatro, the square box that used to show up doesnt appear in Cubase 5. therefore, how do you set the send to go into the back end of the quatro so the compressor can know that that is the signal that will be the trigger? |

It's much better than people make out, although it is a bit pricey for what it is. It generates it's own 4/4 trigger and the envelopes give you much greater control over the pump/duck than a regular sidechain solution does.
Multiband too. |
