Just wondering if any of you have any information with regards to creating an internet readio station.

what type of equipment might i need. A server (linux) with a program such as shoutcast? also what might this cost me (subscriptions??) im very new to this however not entirely new to computer programming and hardware set up. I just figured id ask some of you who have done it before.

Im not an expert on this... but:
I tried to make some kind of radio station with winamp's shoutcast program. The problem was just bandwith. You need to reserve good amount of bandwith to your stream, otherwise the effort is useless.
For starters, i collected some good amount of tracks (various electronic music) and tried to stream via 96kbps. It was ok, but then i needed to download some from the web, and the stream started to stutter. I broadcasted from other computer, so that worked well, but the bandwith just wasn't enough for decent stream. It was exciting experiment nevertheless.
I had some listeners... |
