male bartender?

just wondering how many male bartenders are out there, and how biased are clubs/bars when hiring ? i heard they mostly only hire females?
i wanna take a bar tending course and take up a part time job as it, nothing career wise. just have been noticing tons of post on craigslist pop up searching for them,and i have a interest in it so i thought why the hell not..
anyone have any experience? |

You'll start off as a glassie/barback unlike most of the women, but you can progress much quicker if you have any sort of leadership ability.
Plus working with chicks is heaps of fun in a bar.
You will get over it though. After 4 years I'd had more than enough of bartending and drunk idiots. |

| my brother did it through college & university and enjoyed it immensely. He found that they hired a mixture of guys and girls in the student areas so didn't have any trouble getting a gig, just have to be prepared for the idiots and the late finishes. |

I have zero experience in bar tending, but I have extensive experience in attending bars.
I would say all the ones in the UK are equal opportunity employers, with most places having around equal numbers of men and women working. |

LOL, i have been in hospitality for years, as a manager and supervisor in restaurants and bars.
go for it, there is always plenty of work, reasonable money, good tips depending on where you are,
and like Fledz said you may start of as glassy, or doing stock etc, if your good like he said you progress. otherwise your stuck on glasses and cleaning up.. .
Edit: i generally had a mixed ratio of men to woman, some places tho may be biased |

| my roomie is a bartender and he makes decent cash with it. he bartends at the hotel though, not club. |

What I've noticed in NYC...
At some hole in the wall bar they hire more males. Probably because no female in her right mind would want to work in that craphole.
At clubs if there are male bartenders they are super hot, and there are also a nearly equal share of female bartenders which are somewhat hot (sometimes) but their bodies look better than their faces for the most part.
Isn't there some type of labor law on sex ratio? |

| there are tons of male bartenders. If you are an ugly , chances are that you will never make it higher than bus boy no matter how good you might make a drink.:p |
