Planning an Ibiza trip... (pg. 2)

There aren't any parties in Ibiza town unless you're planning on going to Ibicenco pubs to listen to locals playing acoustic guitar while singing in Catalan and downing shots of Hierbas.

The place you want to be is Playa d'en Bossa, which is a strip along the beach not too far from the airport. There are many hotels and apartment complexes there. Just check the spotlight forums website, as they have a section that allows you to book your apartment directly from the site (typically with a 10% down payment of the total cost). I recommend Hotel Garbi as a good centrally located place to stay.

Car Rental is too easy. You just need a license. Be advised that Insurance is optional, and its best to talk to your U.S. insurance company to get a temporary international plan that will cover you during your stay in Ibiza. Otherwise, if you decide to buy car insurance at the time of rental, the company will charge you upwards of twice what you're paying to rent the car. There are Hertz, Avis, and a few other major rental companies in the airport. There are also many smaller "mom and pop" rental companies smattered throughout the island.

You may even consider not renting a car for the entire duration, and then maybe just renting for a day or two during which you can explore other parts of the Island. If you're going to do this then its a good idea to definitely stay in Playa den Bossa, as you'll be able to walk to Space, Bora Bora etc and catch the disco bus from local bars like Tantra and Beach Palace to go to the two big clubs located in the middle of the Island (Amnesia and Privilege). Pacha and DC10 are only about 8 minutes away by taxi (in opposing directions). All in all, its a good way to save money.

drinks at clubs are beyond expensive, fill a water bottle with vodka and ur fine , you will save alot of money that way,

ya cause cafe mambo, cafe del mar, kanya beach, david's, and the free shuttles to amnesia aren't in san antonio  san an is actually a great place to stay and it has nothing to do with that dump eden. it's cheaper and you get to kick off every evening with a beautiful sunset on the shore with fresh sangria to the background of chillout music. prime setting to meet tons of women as we did. meanwhile you have big headliners from pacha playing free preparties at mambo. why would you latch on to a hotel by space? there's pretty much only one must-do party per week there and that's we love space sundays. the beaches there are a mess of people too. bora bora is the type of place you only need to see once, not every day you're there. it would be a mistake to begin with not to rent a car in ibiza. it's so ing cheap and you'd be a damn fool not to explore the entire island beyond the partying aspect. ibiza is so much more than night clubs. please don't be a knob and actually make an effort to see all ibiza has to offer.

do a search, look for our ibiza 2007 thread. there's tons of advice on how to do ibiza right in there.

You act like I did not stay in San Antonio last year or something. Well I did and I walked to Mambo every day. Also renting a car if you only plan on going to the clubs at night and nothing during the day is a flat out horrible idea. There is enough road checks to keep you busy. I ended up going to pretty much every preparty on the island the week I was there and every major club but eden and can honestly say i will never stay in San Antonio again. I went to Ibiza to party, not to go see some old Phoenician history so I guess I was a fool. We have tons of unique forts and parks in the US to visit, no need to spend a fortune to see something overseas. I guess I am close minded and bored.

This year I will be doing it much different, I will be going to WLS @ space, JOR @ space, CREAM @ amnesia and Swedish house mafia at pacha. anything else I could care less about. And I will definitely be staying in Playa Den Bossa

This year, if they offer a 1 day sale for $400 something roundtrip...I'll have more balls to jump on it!

The beautiful thing about Ibiza or any trip you go on you make it what you want it to be. If you want to go just to party then why don't you save your time and energy and just go to wmc shoot you would save money going that way.

For me Ibiza was so much more then the pre-parties and the best clubs I have ever set foot in. Ibiza is such a beautiful island with all these little hidden coves and treasures. It is also rich in History and culture. They also have a way of life that you wish every one in the US would live.

Ibiza spoils you. You come home wanting more and expecting more.

Haven't missed a WMC in 7 years....... Can I not go to WMC and Ibiza in the same year? Besides the club scene in Ibiza towers over what you would experience during WMC

Oh I agree with you 100%!!! I am not in the mind set to spend 6000 to go a country just to party. I want too see what what else the world has to offer.

I dunno, I know people do look to go to Ibiza for its culture, kinda like a win win situation for those looking to get more of a bang for your buck but.......... I think there are better places to go in the world if you want to see some great history. Ibiza is all about the clubs for me.

no one is talking about history and culture here, i have no idea where you got that idea from. what i'm saying is for people who aren't so one-dimensional in their thinking, there are far more things to do in ibiza (or at any other destination) than partying at the well-known mega clubs over and over and over. michelle is right about (real people) not being in the mind set to spend all that money just to go clubbing, but i guess there are fundamentally two types of travelers out there: the resort bums and the explorers. you seem like the type that after 10 trips to the same place, you would be completely lost with one wrong turn out of your safety zone.

just to give you a sense of what's not even on your radar, ibiza has 36 named beaches. the ones the tourists don't know about are indescribably pristine and serene. unlike anything you've ever seen judging from your habits. in order to reach them you need a car and legs. ibiza's back country has some amazing hiking with views you could never capture with a camera. even the drive across the island to reach these places offers insight and perspective. the non-tourist towns like santa eularia are filled with amazing arts, crafts, people and food. even the big towns are worth exploring. some of the best seafood and pizza i've ever eaten was from ibiza and formentera. formentera you've probably never heard of and probably have no interest in, but it is considered the bahamas of the mediterranean and well worth a day excursion on a scooter. even if you are just a party bum, pacha/amnesia/space is only the tip of the iceberg. there are regular underground parties in villas, in caves, on the beach, on a boat, at an abandoned zoo, etc.

we stayed in san antonio for 17 days and because we had a car, we were able to go wherever the hell we felt like in ibiza. if we wanted to go to playa den bossa, we would simply drive there in 10-15 min no problem, and along the way we would soak in the sights and sounds that people who stay there without a car can't. for 30 euro/day you'd be a total beginner to opt out of driving and severely limit the possibilities of your thousand-dollar trip. the road checks, i hope you realize are for illegal taxi's not for clubbers. we went through road checks every night and the police don't care if you drive with open containers. whatever though, i'll let you learn about traveling like a pro on your own, even if it takes you 10 trips to figure out what the island really has to offer.

I do not really need to take the time to explain who I am in my personal life but what I can tell you is you do not know anything about me. You are the one being closed minded here for not seeing how someone could like going to Ibiza for the clubs only and not be a "club bum". Yes, I knew about the rare and exotic beaches, I know there other islands when it comes to the Balearic islands. If you read my previous responses in full you would have seen that I knew about Ibiza's wonderful things to do outside of clubbing. I just chose to go for the reason of clubbing.

The road check that I went through was not messing with an illegal taxi although I knew they did exists for that purpose. The last I checked they did not stick policia on the beach off the road to catch the "illegal taxi's" that obviously had a plan to drive on the sand to get away from the road check (sarcasm). The road check I saw every day I was in Playa den bossa had one purpose and it was to mess with tourist that where not there for family reasons. I went through it in a taxi (legit and non-legit) and was fine but when I walked through the same checkpoint I was messed with and when I tried to walk around the checkpoint on the beach I was messed with again, both times as sober as could be.

The personal attacks are uncalled for. You know nothing about me. I travel all of the time, more than most could ever imagine or dream about. If I want to go somewhere interesting I will just take a trip to somewhere you need to get a hard to get visa to go to. I travel wayyyyyyyy outside what people consider a safety zone and dont get lost.

This thread was started to help a new comer to Ibiza. I thought some of my opinions could help. I saw it as expensive to the average person so I felt like my experience was welcomed. I guess not everyone is an worthy as you to go to Ibiza. I still stand behind my statement of a new comer should not stay in San Antonio for their first visit to Ibiza..... especially if it is for the clubs which is why most people here on TA would visit Ibiza.

Conclusion:
If you want to go to the main clubs stay in Ibiza town or Playa Den Bossa

If you want to see great beaches get a car or scooter and stay wherever you would like. Dont forget to take the Ferry to Formentera (an island no one besides people like R!CH have any club about)

wow sounds like an excellent place to stay! you reminded me of an incident at bora bora where four cops with night sticks rushed some guy in the crowd, beat the out of him excessively, caused the crowd to trample over each other avoiding the night sticks and almost started swinging at his crying gf for trying to make them stop. ya, definitely stay there!

what personal attacks? if you call my suggestive topical observations "personal attacks", then you should stop being so sensitive and start thinking about what it is i'm getting at.

expensive? how? our hotel was very clean, very convenient, great view, great location, and it included free breakfast and dinner buffets daily for 30 euros/day. our rental car was 36 euros/day split between 4 people. that is cheaper living than any travel destination in america.
