I'm just trying to get an estimate as to who in the Atlanta area actually still listens to trance and prefers trance as their main genre of EDM. Just trying to see who actually posts here and posts in the hopes of bouncing to lasers and 140bpm...
I feel safe to say Calamar and PVDfan007 fall into this category...anyone else? |

| Although my EDM appetite has broadened through the years, trance is still my first and main love. |

| I still listen to pre-2004 trance. There is too much Dutch trance in the scene right now for me to enjoy it. It is rare to hear innovation among producers now as it has been late 90s to early 00s. |

Same. After 2004 I went straight into the Swedish House Mafia, eventually getting into techno and tech-house.
Trance nowadays is at least different if you don't want to say it sucks. |

| If you define trance, I can probably give you a better answer. There is _a lot_ of music that I listen to that I consider trance but does not officially carry that label to it. A majority of the "progressive" that I like should really be called "trance" but then no one in Atlanta would admit that they like it. Heh. |

Yeah, no one will admit that they like it.
I first got turntables late last year, and at the moment 90% of what I buy is late 90's / early 00's progressive house and progressive trance. Think oldschool Bedrock Records, Twisted, Yooshi, etc. Bigger room prog, you could say. I guess I lucked out as this is the type of sound I'm really into at the moment, and Beatlab has quite a good stock of these types of records.
The newer can right off, however. It's absolute garbage, not even worth listening to. Most of the DJs who used to play the style of music I enjoy have either moved on to big room tech house, or are currently stuck in cheese land as they probably will be for all eternity. |

I listen to 'harder' trance - cant stand progressive - which has taken over the trance name. Sean Tyas, JOC, Ummet Ozcan, Jochen Miller, W&W, etc - all producers I enjoy sets of - though some like JOC have some cheese productions but the dj sets are usually without it depending on the location.
Otherwise its pre 2004 trance from those who did go proggy now or other artists. Wish the simple trance from then came back = ayla, blank and jones, cosmic gate, etc. Oh well |

The sheer amount of Trance has grown tremendously from the early 2000's. I started listening in 2002 and I can remember being a fan of a small number of DJ's. Was that way until about 2004 - early 2005. Then, BAM...EVERYONE is suddenly a "big dj".
We've gotten a few good ones from that debacle, though, Gareth Emery most likely being the best of the "newer" DJ's, along with Nic Chagall (from Cosmic Gate doing his own thing) and Dash Berlin (Alice DeeJay reborn).
Trance will always be my "first love" even though I've been a huge fan of Schultz for the past 2-3 years. Hell, I still even drop some G&D sets to listen to from time to time, even though they're no more.
(And a few of your original folks can attest to how big of a G&D whore I was...) :)
I never miss Armin and rarely miss an episode of ASOT. Same for GDJB. Will make it a point now to never miss Markus again, as well as Above & Beyond. Cosmic Gate coming last July was the precipice of my experience with Trance. Waited 7 years to see them live, and it REALLY sucks that Opera royally ed up their show. Doubt they'll ever come back.
I've seen Tiesto more than probably everyone else here (combined) but doubt I'll ever go to another one of his shows. Too mainstream / poppy right now, ala Oakenfold when he went Bunkka.
Trance has changed. A lot. A lot of the TA's jumped on the electro house bandwagon a few years back, said " trance" and never looked back.
I remember getting messages from folks I'd ask about coming out, and they would all say, "It's just not my style..."
(Not at all hatin' on my close / original TA's...I'm just sayin' ;) )
All I know is, I have roughly 2TB of EDM. About 90% of it is Trance & Progressive, and that'll never change. |
