SIAN

Not many upcoming producers can say they know as much about the architecture and social structure of a beehive as the chord structure and rhythm of their music, but then again, not many upcoming producers have been reworked and remixed by talent like Gui Boratto, Steve Bug, Efdemin, Minilogue or Pan-Pot so early on in their career, and toured half the world in such a short timespan...
When you have interests ranging from Entomology, Cosmology and marine Biology to psychoacoustics and the social impact of the rave generation.. you tend to make unusual art. Born in Dublin, Ireland, raised gypsy style in southern Spain and constantly moving cities, Sian chose early to drop out of normal society, make music and DJ. Adhering more to the avant-garde way of life, he stands out as a little more bohemian than the average electronic figure..a rare, flamboyant and eccentric new talent. With appearances on labels like Sci+Tec, Aus, Pokerflat, Soma and his continued output on his own techno imprint, Octopus, Sian is fast becoming recognized as a truly unique figure in modern music. The full scale of his works re-interpretations and remixes includes Gui Boratto, Steve Bug, Efdemin, Selway, Jonas Kopp, Pan-Pot and Minilogue so far.
Beginning with a dub electronica project on LTJ Bukems Cookin imprint, then a rather unusual 12" for Pokerflat featuring a Steve Bug remix (which is considered a secret weapon end-of-the-nighter by many DJs) Following strange little gems on labels like Mule and Gabriel Anandas Karmarouge etc., he went on to make a series of releases for Aus, the rare and meticulously procured London label of Will Saul. These oddities were remixed to perfection by Minilogue,Efdemin and Roland Appel leading Sian to then get wild with some quirky peak time techno for Dubfires monster Sci & Tec Imprint with a huge Pan-Pot remix. He sparked a collaboration with techno legend Funk Dvoid on Soma, a combination of warm melody and serious drum workout action has seen the pair develop this widely praised studio project into classic releases. This leads us to his biggest undertaking yet,his own forward thinking and boundary stretching techno imprint Octopus..number one on the imprint was Flood, remixed by the maestro Gui Boratto, kick starting a whole plethora of left field underground backroom bombs and an output for selections from esteemed names like 3Channels, Ripperton, Gui Boratto, Jonas Kopp, John Selway, Exercise one, Roland M Dill and bright new talent like Calculus and Nico Purman. The young imprint is already getting praised by DJs like Carl Cox, Richie Hawtin, Sasha, Dubfire, Loco Dice, John Digweed, Damian Lazarus, M.A.N.D.Y and much press rapture from DJmag, IDJ, Mixmag, Resident Advisor, Groove, XLR8 etc., taking Octopus into the big rooms.
Relating his studies and investigations to an ever evolving artform, what Sian transmits to the crowd in his DJ performances is an explosion of modern energy-not content until a heaving crowd gets "there." He acknowledges the importance of theory and thinking in the chaotic and often excessive dance music environment. In the studio it's pure inspiration, painstaking work and genuine creative and technological spark that dominate. The appreciation for Sians unusual style and vibrant production is instant and demand is now heating up for Sian's remixes, with recent projects such as Gui Boratto, Audiofly, Simon Baker and Vegetable Orchestra project (other remixers on this peculiar project are Anja Schneider, Luciano, Villalobos), he has illustrated a genuinely diverse sound and achingly sublime style. His list of aficionados reads like a who's who of contemporary dance culture, from Loco Dice, Ricardo Villalobos, Steve Bug, Carl Craig, Luciano and m.a.n.d.y to Sasha, John Digweed and James Zabiela.
Sian's international DJ-ing adventures have already taken him all over the globe, from the most contemporary clubs and festivals in Europe, to dates in Canada, USA, Eastern Europe, South America, Australia and beyond. Memorable nights at pioneering clubs like Berghain, Secretsundaze, Tripod, Weekend, Hive, Nitsa, Mulletover, Compression, The Loft, Fusion Festival, The Endup etc. have seen Sian's marathon DJ sets bring real voodoo to the dancefloor. He is also now a showcase artist for Weekend club in Berlin, rolling out his trademark freaky style at the club and events regularly, and is resident at his own hedonistic clubnight in Barcelona, Shake your bones. Whether conducting everlasting sweat soaked DJ sessions or creating timeless dance music, Sian is a truly diverse and original talent,at once chic and hedonistic, always intensely inventive...

TOUANE (LIVE PA)

Touane's dancefloor-oriented, yet funky series of 12"s have caught the attention of DJs and music lovers around the globe since his signing with Stewart Walker's Persona Records back in 2004.
An Italian expatriate who found his new home in Berlin some five years ago, like most of the contemporary electronic music producers Marco found in the german Hauptstadt the ideal habitat to develop his art. From here, he has been able to make himself a name through a series of releases which instantly displayed an original approach to techno, still avoiding to blindly follow the consolidated trends and revivals which seem to come up one after the other in the underground dance music scene. Appearing soon on the map as one of Italy's most respected electronic music producers, ever since Marco kept providing in various forms quality electronic music and an entertaining live show.
The consolidation of Tonni’s talents came first with the chart-topping single Bassic, licensed for Fabric Live – Tiefschwarz and for XLR8R’s Berlin Issue compilation CD back in 2006; then with releases on Dumb-Unit, Trenton, Regular, Liebe*Detail, Resopal, Minisketch, Lan Muzic, he's been able to trigger a successful serie of tours which spread from the U.S. to Japan, and while he appears regularly in some of Europe finest clubs he keeps evolving his live show bringing together the energy of the funk and the sharpness proper of the manipulation of sounds via cutting edge electronics.
On the way to release his third album, the follow up to 2007 Figura, Touane keeps up with his tradition of more laidback and daring music on his longer efforts: Self Quote, which will be released as a 2 part album, will be out this autumn on Miami's Schematic.
More hectic activity is soon to come from the man, since 2009 will also see the launch of Marco's own imprint, Left Handed, which will establish a small home base for the core of his productions, songs and sound design. Left Handed will feature exclusively Touane's music, and is intended as a free field of expression for dancefloor inspired excursions. |
