Oh how i love that track, when Tiesto came to town last month, I got to meet him and I mentioned to him about how much I just absolutely -adore- this song. His reply was "It's a fun song eh?" Which it is!

other favorites:

CloudWalking - Pulsar
Ordinary World - Aurora
Sky Dive - Free Fall
Gouryella - Gouryella
Everytime - Lustral

-Peace!

Cloudwalking!!!!!! When has a non-vocal song title truly represented a song as well as this one!
Lustral - Everytime
The Nalin & Kane remix is one of my alltime favorite tracks

Hi me again, I believe I was talking about Epic trance

now for it to be epic it has to survive time...As you have mentioned, you have had fiji for quite a while and you cant deny its a good track..hence its worth of the description "Epic"...Now for Saltwater by Chicane to be called Epic...hmmm over here we consider that cheesy dance music and not trance. I mean the only reason that tune is good is because it feat. vocals by Enya's little sis. If you like that stuff, go listen to the legendary sounds of Clannad and to some extent, Enya. Adding a cheesy beat on those pure spiritual vocals makes it an abomination.

Its like the time (in the early 90s) when some dudes tried to put some techno beats over classical music...It was in fashion for a short while and totally died out! Some forms of music cant be mixed with techno!

Ok heres my epic trance suggestions of the day :)
DJ Sakin and friends - Nomansland lange remix
DJ Sakin and friends - Protect your mind lange remix

i guess that might fit into "your" tastes
patticus
pardon me if im wrong klumsyboy, but isnt protect your mind simply the braveheart theme? that's music for the classical instruments if i ever heard it. sakin simply put that to a "dance beat," so you could call that cheese too (even though i dont). he re-did the strings with synths, and then still put the strings over those techno beats. im afraid i dont see how doing the same with marie brennan's vocals qualifies. if you listen to the original song "theme from harry's game" it uses part of the same vocals, but the theme is totally different. the melody nick bracegirdle composed for saltwater (to harmonize with those re-recorded vocals), i think, is one anyone would be proud of.
what's the extent of using gaelic/irish (whatever) vocals? their intent is to be haunting, much like that used in fiji

to sum up, i can understand how some may think the underlying beats to saltwater are cheese, but i think the melodic beauty of the piece, overrules that.. anyone with a composition background can identify w/ what im saying
klumsyboy
Hi me again...I have to admit I liked saltwater the first time I heard it, the 2nd time and the 3rd..and finally got off my butt and downloaded it...but after about 10 listens, I deleted it off my hard drive. Im not denying that its a masterpiece, but it is far from epic...if you want epic cheese, try downloading Tunnel trance force Vol 15 CD1 (xmas mix) and the first song called "in full effect" or something on that line could be classified Epic :)

Sounds a bit like 2 unlimited hee hee

ps I only mentioned oldies because a new song can hardly be called epic until it has stood the test of time.

Ok for some Epic "uplifting" classics how bout the following(im sure I can come up with something we can agree on :)

Legend B - Lost in love (original mix) the remix by taucher is and abomination

Impact - Behind the mirror

Sunscreem - Exodus (fire & Ice mix)

Chakra - Home

Love for sale - do you feel so right (a bit slow for today though)

tell me what you think bye bye

and I am not a snob and as you know sarcasm is the lowest form of wit and you must be watching too much buffy and imitating the way they talk! They are so sarcastic to each other! :)

Lost in love is definately an epic, im sure we can all agree on that one. One of the first ever trance songs i heard i think and i still love it. And although i highly respect Taucher i would have to agree again that dont think his remix does this song justice.

At least we agree on some thing Klumsy :o)
klumsyboy
Hi Thats probably cos were both from Australia :)

Ok more epic trance:
Fast track:

Dogma - Dimension (Club mix) The trance mix is ok but not as good!

Slow tracks:
Push - Universal Nation

Ok bye bye
Linx_da_cat

inflexion - elios (original mix)
klumsyboy
Hi just so this is still on topic
a DJ Mix I just downloaded is Binary Finary live at Hyperstate 1999

Its uniquely different so it might be epic trance...take a listen :)

ok what I really wanted to ask was how come mr Lynx aka Trance Cashew has his "trance cashew" in place of Junior/Senior Trance addict?

And how does s/he make 994 posts in a month?
Linx_da_cat
hey klumsyboy...from what i figure, it's either cause you need a certain amount of posts to change your status under your name or you have to be a member for a certain amt of time.

to change it it's under profile > edit options. it'll be in plain sight if you have that option available.

as for your second question...hehhe...i live here. :D

patticus
kinda of a shock, klumsyboy, i hadn't heard of any of the songs you mentiond here. and although im no trance "confucius", i have definitely been over-saturated in trance over the past 2 years.. so i was surprised not to know these. anyways, i'll check all these tracks out. lost in love is ok. a little too fast for me, reminds me a bit of something coxy would play.. nuttin special i tinks, but its alright.

above & beyond mix of chakra is definitely tight though, i see what you mean. the original is pretty good too :)
how old is this song?

impact - a bit too happy feely.. its ok
i think free radical's surreal (en motion mix) featured on magik 6.. falls in the same category as this, but should/could be a classic here.

and exodus (fire & ice mix), well i like Fire & Ice (Forever Young is an excellent track, from magik 6 also) but.. i dunno this song seems to be the type of trance i hate, if only because i think my ass could compose this song. the lead-in's good, but.. the breakdown or whatever is annoying, esp. when you have the chorus of people chanting "exodus"

all a matter of personal taste i suppose (like how you hate digs and sasha)
i feel like this thread is simply discussing "generic" trance now, getting away from the whole epic thing - the definition of epic, as someone said earlier, is totally up to the listener
patticus
one last thought, we're talking mostly about dated stuff right.. an underrated one comes to mind. the theme to clockwork orange?

i dont even know who did that, just heard it in several sets (tiesto, cox, etc.)
also, james holden - horizon (way out west mix)

and pete lazonby - sacred cycles

into different styles we go....

(that stuff by push, and johnny shaker's pearl river are definitely rockin, klumsyboy)
