The title says it all really. Just bought my 21.5" imac but haven't purchased Logic Studio yet but will do in about a month's time hopefully. So i thought i'd spend the next few weeks re-familiarising myself with the workings of the mac, seeing as i had an old G3 imac back in 2001 but have used Logic 5.5 on a pc since 2002.

Its great to be back on the platform and having an up to date version of Logic has been a plan for many years. Now i am halfway there but wanna have the imac all ready to go when Logic arrives so i can get tweaking and playing right away. So i thought i'd set up my samples folder now and copy across my old sample folder from the pc from when i was using Logic 5.5. So i have a few questions:

(a) Is there a good or recommended destination to put this folder and can i do it effectively before Logic is installed? I really like to be well organised to help my workflow run better when making music. All of my samples are in easy to find folders so wanna make it as easy to follow for myself on the new computer and try to keep it neat and tidy.

(b) Are alot of the presets for instruments in synth like the ES1 and ES2 that still exist in Logic the same sounds? Can i copy across my favourite instrument saved patches from 5.5?

(c) I suppose i'd like to access and utilise the same samples folder in Garageband which i'm mucking around a bit in now so will i be able to do so easily?

(d) i have a tonne of 3rd party vst plaugins and synths that i've collected over the years for my Logic 5.5 -- can you recommend some good freeware ones i can get a hold of to have ready to go for a few weeks time.

(e) Can anyone give me some direct feedback on how the 21.5", 3ghz 500gb imac handles Logic Studio with all its components installed together with the advertised 40gb of bundled in samples?
palm
congratz.

i put my samples under the default music folder for my user. logic will also make its own folder here so you could maybe put the samples in the logic folder after its installed. dont think it matters. its accessable from anywhere but i like to put everything under my music folder so i only have to backup that folder. mp3s, music-apps(install/dmg), samples, Reason-projects, Logic-projects, Ableton-projects, finished projects(wav/mp3), iTunes are all subfolder in my musicfolder which makes everything easy to backup.

find a way that works for you after the install.
