This is the main auditorium where i do live sound 20k system 10k subs. We have to mix indie college bands etc but we did do a live drum and bass act that came from canada which was cool. I did get to do an ableton live performance in there which was pretty sweet too.

Thought i would post because i remember a while back people talking about doing music courses etc. This is what its like.

they dont seem to be loading so the album is here

Cool setup bro. Shame this whole studio thingie is slowly fading away and going to lappy-based "rigs". In not too distant future you'll see this with your kids in a Smithonian and he/she will ask: "daddy, is that a spaceship control?" "oh no no no lol darling. This is actually a recording deck and equipment that was used back in the days to record music, prop up elbows of clueless hip hop producers that would buy hem as a status symbol and have them gold plated... And in some cases prepared some college students for a career in drive-through fast food restaurants". "oh daddy, that's so fascinating" your youngin will exclaim "you mean to tell me that before Timmy and I could record our last three platinum albums on our iPad Garage Band, people had to use these monstrosities for recording music and resting their meaty, ashy elbows on these thingies?" "why, yes dear". "got it daddy. Daddy, by the way - what. Is 'hip hop'?"

I keed I keed. Cool gear, bro.

i have to agree, however in the unlikely scenario i don't make it into trance superstardom ;) i will most likely be a music tech teacher.

All my tech teachers are established artists and use the 3 months of they get a year to tour etc which doesn't sound like the worst life in the world to me =). They do stuff like play bass guitar for florence and the machine or appear on tv bands or play big dance festivals as a live dnb act using ableton.

Good pension and benefits too =)

Failing that maybe mcdonalds need someone to service the drive through microphones haha

you usually need a phd to get tenure at a University. That or some profound experience in the field and academic recommendations.

here you need whats called a PGCE post graduate certificate which is an additional year after the degree. Think its half a masters degree which i am going to get. Although you dont get student finance for it so you have to pay yourself :(.

That said a lot of the younger tutors are doing their PHD while they teach some already have one.

Definately want to go the academic route, i see it as the only concrete way of turning a passion into a career except being totally amazing at it and getting the right breaks.

I'm not a fan of the academic side to music. I would rather teach math than music.

What are you trying to do with your degree?

You know i went there because i thought it would make me a great producer. Fact is i learned nothing about production i didn't already know. The nice thing is though instead of learning what i went to learn i got so much more, music theory didn't know a scrap before now i know enough to get by. Music history is really interesting, and live sound has got me into room treatments, different music styles, new equipment etc so in answer to your question. I started to be a producer and i always will be, but now the opportunity to teach while doing what i love however successful or not i may be seems like what i wanna do. Plus i guess having a degree helps in the job market as long as your not applying to be a specialist in another area as it shows commitment etc.

I think i know what your gettin at that music degrees are largely pointless, i agree to a certain extent when compared to say engineering etc. However i'm glad i'm doing one.

almost every undergraduate is pointless but if you looked at average earnings for BAs, you will find that Art degrees outrank science. NA puts way more emphasis on people skills than actually being smart.

people value people skills more so than more scientific learning. And if you decided to do something more scientific, you either have to do a masters or phd to learn enough so that it is relevant or train on the job. You don't learn much in 4 year other than how to express yourself and meeting deadlines. You can do a alot more with an arts degree than you can with a math degree.

Most people who go into sciences actually want to stay in school and specialize, so it's kind of a moot point. If you want to be making money as soon as you get out of school then you either go into business/commerce, engineering, or a specialized discipline like comp sci or veterinary science.
