and you play something beautiful then realise its the chords from a famous dance track are you copying someone if you then go on to create a song from it?
Surely it was part of my creative process playing the chords its not my fualt someone got there first right?

| there is not one dance track in history that uses original chord progressions so I don't see the problem. Also since most dance tracks don't actually have a melody since it is merely voice leading in the chords, it isn't actually something that you can copyright. |

| wasn't on about copyright, just a pride thing really could you guys knowingly carry on with some nice chords if you heard someone elses classic everytime you played them? |

Actually richie you might be able to help me out
The chords are i,iv,VI,VII in Bb natural minor could you suggest some passing chords to throw between them to spice things up a bit?
Edit: omitting all 5ths so far |

| can you post an example of what you are after and what you are sort of copying. Its jut that there are so many things you can do that it would help me if you were a little more specific. You can pm it if you don't want it public. |

| If to your knowledge its something new and you have'nt heard...thats all that matters artistically and creatively. No one expects all artists to have heard every piece of music, in great detail, or to be inspired by something similar. The way I see it, if I ever make something similar to someone elses, I say awesome, it might be that some minds think alike, or see things similarily, and if they are a talented artist, great. Good listeners of music, often dont look for similarities between two similar things, they find the nuanced differences, knowing that the alphabet does have its limitations and musical paths often cross amongst artists who utilize the similar instruments. |

its cool man i dont mind it being public the song i didnt intentionally copy was signum "what ya got for me"
Im looking just to turn 4 chords into a nice uplifting progression but the 4 chords i have are already sounding nice together and im not good at passing chords so what im hoping for is like i dont know
i,___,iv,__,VI,__VII to fill in the gaps with nice passing chords and i know you know how lol. |

| listening to the reference track, I don't think there is really room for passing chords. Substitute the bVII for minor V in first inversion for a different colour. The iv isn't really a iv and you can do a ii leaving out the dim 5 and flat 7 keeping it over the i. You can always the bVII chord with a diminished 7 going to i. You can have a slight dissonance playing VI but using a minor 3 which resolves to a major 3. You can do all those chords over a pedal but I think the use of non chord tones in the melody will achieve better results that forcing chords in. |

i accidentally played the chords of alice deejay - better off alone but then just simply played a different lead over it...a few years later i mashed them both together.
DivShare File - found atlantis - this feeling.mp3
