Liking the sound of that, has a nice groove to it.
I remember reading an interview with Future sound of London a few years back where they were complaining about too many chill out tracks taking the whole 'minimal' thing too far and basically just consisting of synth pads and over-reverbed pluck synths. :P
Some people are under the illusion that chillout has to have the whole symphonic-electro sound going on, which is not always the case.
For me, chill-out isn't a genre by itself. more a mixture of the more down tempo aspects of a multitude of genres.
The last chill out mix I posted on here is a good example. The electronic tracks are actually in the minority.

But, back to your sample :P
As I said, I really like the grove you have going there.
For me Chill out is more about the vibe of the track itself than specifics regarding genre etc. (if that makes any sense) :) |

here is a downtempo thing I did in 2001. Was interesting in film music at the time but had no idea how to do classical so it is kinda sci fi ambient type thing. Its pretty cool tho. No loops and some neat sound design. Mix aside it is pretty bad ass.

Thanks for the feedback :)
I'm really not a fn of minimal music of any genre tbh, so I'm with you there.
I agree about 'feel' being important in downtempo music. It's a tricky thing to pull off a decent groove at 140bpm, letalone half that.
I suppose the whole point of this thread was to provoke a discussion about how different approaches are used and mine is clearly very different than yours and Owseys (thanks for your comments too :D ).
Without my usual cubase template, 140bpm and teh tArnC3 kicks I was a bit lost there for a while! |

The only Hed Kandi I've only been able to find so far is "Serve Chilled" (on Rhapsody) and it's a great compilation - thanks for the heads-up! :)
@tehlord - I tried listening to your track, but SC says it not available - did you take it down? |

I uploaded a slightly extended version and put it in the music producers section for some proper feedback

It's really just a collection of ideas but I was paying particular attention to the drums, which I used Kontakt and Battery for. It was most fun programming asian style drums rather than throwing in a loop for a change. |

very haunting track!
I can't wait for the finished version, with some reverb and fx tweakage it's gonna be huge! |
