In January 2010, Ubisoft announced the Online Services Platform, which forces customers to not only authenticate on the first game launch, but to remain online continually while playing, with the game even pausing if network connection is lost. This makes it impossible to play the game offline, to resell it, and means that should Ubisoft's servers go down, the game will be unplayable. http://support.uk.ubi.com/online-services-platform/
It has been confirmed that Settlers 7 will be one of the first Ubisoft games to implement this new DRM solution.

yep, just experienced it first hand. got my hands on the beta last night and my internet died in the midst of my awesome trade empire :p
this game is very fun though, definitely getting it despite the drm issue

Didnt know we were up to 7 alredy. The last settlers game i played was 3...that was quite a while ago.
But this DRM seriously pisses me off, i wasnt planning on buying the game anyway since i dont play these games any more but if i was planning on getting it i woudnt just because of this type of intrusive drm. Im not ashamed to say i would rather get myself a pirate copy than support this. And there will be a pirated version, every copy protection thus far has been broken, this one will as well, and when it does get cracked in all likelihood there will be less probles running it as well.

That's really annoying, especially for people with crappy connections. I'll be playing this game, but I'll be getting a downloaded copy without this attached to it. This just turns more and more people to piracy.

Crackers do some amazing work. DRM only hurts people who buy copies, and people who are noob pirates (WHAT DO I DO WITH .RAR??!)

LOL...so true! What does mount mean? My favorite one I saw the other day "I'm using 128mb video card and Crysis won't run. There is something wrong with this game...please take it down" :stongue:

oh and the game doesn't STOP working, as in it just quits. it pops up a window that says "connection error, waiting to re-establish connection with server" and once it does, you're back where you were
the first one was my computers fault, not the game

Which is no9t as bad but... it that doesnt make it any better. The end result is the same, no internet no playing the game. Which as was mentioned will only probably be a problem for those that will buy a legit copy of the game. A cracked one willin all likelihood workwithout problems even when youre offline which just shows that the only people that are inconvenienced by DRM are the people that actually spend money on games.
