Roland JP 8000, the synth that always seems to get sold shortly after purchase. I still have mine, acting as a MIDI controller.. although i want to get rid of it, sure it does the supersaw better than anything else.. but apart from that it just sounds bright and awkward for the most part, and yeah also the lack of voices on that thing. |
that synth pretty much defined the trance sound for a decade. I would hardly call that a sucky synth. |

- Access Virus Rack XL. Impossible to program a 16 part synth with tons of effex and oscs and lfos and filters with four knobs and five buttons. Also i think the oscs is abit weak.
- Roland JP8080. Less intuitive interface i havent seen ever for only two parts. And the envelopes omg they are clicky/ticky. Unison is terrible. Pretty strong oscs though so i like the sound of it. I just didnt like to work with it.
- Clavia Nord Rack 3. Too warm and wet somehow, all the sounds i made sounded the same. Lack of effex (eq, phasor, delay, reverb). The fm mode was abit weak imo. The whole synth was abit too undistinct, and hard to fit a mix. Great interface though. And the pure saw was pretty nice.
- Waldord MicroQ: Too bright sounding imo, but i really didnt have time to learn it properly so im not going to say much about it. Interface wasnt soo good, same problems as Virus Rack XL.
- Korg Electribes: Sounds like eventhough their fun to play with.
Pretty useless really for other that ideastorming.
I think thats about everything i ever had, it all sucked :stongue:
I understand though, that it is me that suck hehe, so im recommend anyone to try themselfs, and make up their own mind.
A huge pluss on all of them is resale-value, i didnt loose anything when trying this out (except motivation and time). It seems im a software dude. The only thing i want to try now is Elektron instrumenst. |

| I really regret buying upgrading to Ableton Live Suite 7. The thing I use most is sampler and everything else doesn't really get used. Tension and Electric sound weak to me. Analog gets over shadowed by the use of the ubiquitous Sylenth 1. |

I disagree. The grid-style interface on the MicroQ is pretty quick and intuitive to use IMO and most of the necessary synth parameters are available from the front panel. It's not perfect, but it beats the hell out of the rackmount Virus models, where everything is buried in menus, sub-menus, etc. It's no surprise that Access did away with the rackmount versions. |

Wash you mouth out! My electribe to this day is one of my favourite items of kit. So much fun to program drums with, although in fairness I do only use it as a midi controller, not as a synth at all.
They didn't suck though at the time - in fact they were seriously popular, it's just that the earlier (the "e" not the "X") range dated badly and now are kind of unusable in contemporary tracks.
The X range can still be used in terms of sounds, but I suppose software has more advantages and less limitations.
I hated the hartman neuron when it first came out. That ing thing drove me crazy, buggy and unstable as , half the billed functions didn't work and you had to do firmware upgrades by setting it up as an FTP networked device! |
my mate has a couple of the electribes the older original models i think, i found them rather fun, he practically does everything with the both. Although not my cup of tea, but usable indeed. |

With the TI that exists now I think it is a surprise. The Virus VST plugin is the one thing that would actually make a rack version beneficial. |

| I should be buying the EMX-1 this week and it hurts to see someone diss it. Its only limited if you don't squeeze every last drop out of it (upgrade the tubes). Im gonna connect it to my M-base 01 and see what kind of fun I can have. |
