just got a new laptop the other day, new i7 processor, decent dedicated-memory video card, HD display, etc. and now i want to play the games that i've been missing out on from the last year or so. so far i have borderlands, mirror's edge, and nfs: shift. mirror's edge is fantastic imo. virtual parkour ftw.
any suggestions on "must play" PC games? not a fan of RTS or sports/racing. i like traditional/japanese-style RPGs, turn-based strategy-RPGs, FPS (i used to really get down with halo 2 back in the day), and puzzle games. |

oh man, NFS:Shift is a beauty. There's an unofficial add-on for TrackIR. And while I don't have TrackIR, it also enables mouselook. And while it's impossible to drive and use a mouse at the same time, it's great to enter into a non-competitive race, remove the HUD and have a sweet simulation.
As for new recommendations, Far Cry 2 looks absolutely gorgeous on max settings with DX10. It's a bit of a gamble at $30-40, seeing as the gameplay is rather stale. I like games with open terrain and free exploration. I've completed maybe 3 missions in the 10-15 hours I've played. It's a great walking simulator.
I like how every single leaf in a tree is affected by the light source of the sun(in DX10 mode). Walking under a tree, especially after you've launched a grenade to cause it to shake, is the epitome of next-generation game engine design.
I played FUEL on the Xbox360 and it had some beautiful vistas and scenery. It's either 5,000 square km or 5,000 square miles of free terrain(no loading menus, etc) to ride across in your vehicle.

Again, gameplay is stale in this one and I bought it just for the ability to drive around and see the world. |

+1 to cap and always keeping my updated with steam deals
and +1 to left4dead 2
if you played diablo and enjoyed that, torchlight is a new game that's pretty fun. it's not in depth at all, but it's a fun game to just pass time.
dragon age origins is supposed to be a really good rpg, though I don't think it's a turn based one. isn't there a new final fantasy coming out? |

IMO Far Cry 2 was a bit boring. Too much driving around. A very pretty game, but meh. For FPS and pretty, you simply can't beat Crysis.
And Modern Warfare 2 is hella fun. |

| Dirt 2 is one of the prettiest games I have played lately...Max settings and DX 11   Even if you don't like racing games this one would make u a fan. |

thanks a ton for the suggestions, fellas. might have to try far cry 2, if solely for the description suspicionvandit made. sounds interesting.
also, loved diablo, wasn't a fan of torchlight that much. felt too much like disneyland diablo. i dunno. eagerly awaiting d3 though..
dragon age: origins and all those hardcore PC rpg's just never really clicked with me for some reason. couldn't get into KOTOR or any of those other ones either. I am, however, contemplating mass effect 2 because i've read nothing but good things about it.
