Ambient idea

This is an update to the idea I posted in my chillout expert thread

It's a very rough, quiet mix with a few ideas in. I've been experimentinh with ethnic (whatever that means) samples from the Kontakt and Battery libraries. Very nice they are too.

Feedback very welcome, is the mix already getting too busy? I'm still flying blind

The drums are really nice, but I think those "trancey" pads take away part of their character.

For Ambient/Downtempo etc. I always think it's nice to have things slowly progress. The elements in this come together quite quickly. Of course, this is just my personal opinion, but my suggestion would be to "tease" the elements and gradually bring them in.

But I liked the pleasant sounding synthwork. Very laidback stuff. I look forward to hearing more!

Cheers matey

It's good to get that kind of feedback :)

you're probably right about the speed of the parts coming together but it's justa collection of ideas at the moment. I'm glad you said it though because I'd already considered that demo as a rough guide to an intro

I shall experiment with pad sounds too. I always choose pads in their abilty to fit other elements rather than standing up on their own.

It does seem that everything comes in a bit quickly, but it's hard to say without knowing where the song is going. I like the guitar coming in at the end - is that where the song is headed? At any rate, I really like what you've got so far. I particularly like the "snare" - it's very unique sounding and adds a lot of interest to the track IMO.

Sounding good!

Cheers Dave

The guitar part was a bit of an ad lib as i've asked another guitarist pal of mine to maybe do some Floyd style riffs on it. I fired up Predator and tweaked a patch a bit, ran it through Guitar Rig and quite liked the result! I'll see what he comes up with too and choose one, use both or layer them, dunno yet!

The snare was a random hit from a SOR sample CD that I ran through Shortcircuit and pitch it to fit the track and a ping pong delay. I'm quite pleased with the results too.

Anyhoo, I ramble on. Consider the layout dumped.

Nice would work good with some images I think :) Try to make some art vid. with this stuff when you done with the sound. IMMO you should loop some parts a bit make it a bit slower build up (i know it's just little demo part anyway so I probably should not say anything xD). This can really be a nice warm chill out track man thus sounds are very very well absorbed by the ears. Looks like I need to start making some ambient in Free (free) time :)

Thanks again for the comments :)

I'm definately going to persevere with the more downtempo stuff. It really lets me experiment with percussion which has been msotly neglected in my tarnce quest!

Hi Geoff,

Usually after 7PM I'm listening City lights on 98.9 KWJZ Seattle Smooth Jazz station and let me tell you that my first impression (after listened you track) was hey is not 7PM yet - nice, really nice.
I was impress the way you created this nice, soft and smooth atmosphere. I guess you, my friend, have undiscovered skills/potential for different type of music, not only Trance.

Well done and I can't wait for the final track.

Cheers

Hehe cheers Darek :)

The idea at least has formed into something I'm happy continuing with. ;)

thanks again :p

I'm pretty chuffed with the response the track has got even at this stage.

It just goes to prove to myself once again that if you're not 100% happy with a track after an hour or so of tweaking then just bin it. This was the 3rd or 4th attempt at starting a chillout track :)
