Btw I have some new sets I'll be upping shortly.

I think, if someone really likes a certain track they hear in someone's set, they're more likely to buy it than they are to avoid buying it. It's simple, really. I hear a track I really like, and I want to have the full version (to most likely be able to play it myself, whether it be at a club, party or just in a mix I will be sharing as well). I deno't think the argument holds up that uploading mixes in any way damages potential sales of a track/record, especially if the mix is free to listen to/download in the first place. I think labels would only concern themselves with such matters if somebody is actually making money off their music without a license/royalty.

So honestly, don't worry. Share your mixes all you want, it's free promotion for the labels. If anything, be sure to include a track list so that people can download any tracks they might like.

I guess you guys are correct, I mean it would clearly state what it is under the description. You know if they tell me to talk it down, then I take it down. I'm just looking for gigs and look at this as promotion, and a lot of folks I've talked to go to sites like this instead of the whole handing out cd thing. Currently I am working on my own music, it's just all in pieces. The hard part for me, to post my stuff is that I work industry. Not for a record company but as mixer, and I know how hard up some of these labels are, well the big boys at least. I'll probably go for the lite version. Free version doesn't offer a whole lot of space.

Thank you for all your input, I appreciate it.

Yeah the free version works best if you don't have the spare cash to go around

Well, yes and no. I agree DJs are probably going to be more likely to buy a track if they hear it in a mix shared online, but there's a reasonably large contingent of 'normal' music listeners who buy dance music just to listen to, including full-length versions from Beatport if that's the only way to get their favourite tune. If they can get that tune for free by downloading a demo mix with it in rather than buying a compilation with it in or downloading the full version, they will do.

Also, there are still some twats around who will lift a version out of a mix, edit it to be mixable and then play that rather than buying the original track... I'm sure it's rarer than some labels think though.

Bear in mind that DJs who charge people for copies of their demos don't really harm potential sales, it's just plain insulting.

All I'm really saying is I can identify with why some labels get angry about it (even if their logic is somewhat flawed) and I think it's important for DJs to appreciate this as well so that they can be sensible when sharing mixes.

Sorry but non industry do NOT buy music on the regular; that's as close to a fact as possible. I have a lot of friends that listen to edm and not one of them buys a track.

And that is nobody's fault but the labels. If you market to djs; don't expect consumers to buy your tracks, plain and simple.

The promotion system has been flawed for many years in it's aim towards djs.

I know quite a lot of non-DJs who do buy singles from Beatport etc actually. But I agree the numbers of those who do are much smaller than the DJ population.

other places to upload sets are archive.org and letsmix.com (just stumbled upon this one today)

Alright here we go. One of my NYE sets. This was the last of a five hour set. Funny thing is, I wasn't prepared at first. This was added after the party hosts asked us to stay. It's not too bad but I do need to sit and study my music. At the beginning you'll notice that the Jochen Miller track starts in the middle of the transition into the Garth Emery tune. I edited the entire evening into four parts. I wanted to capture the transition instead of just starting at a break.

Here's the link.

But how many people try to become DJ's once they have a taste?
