What's a "Bad Cluster"? I don't really know for sure what EXACTLY a Cluster is but, here's what I THINK it is:

A fixed amount of data that is equal tho the lowest amount of data that can be saved on an HDD. If the Cluster's size is 8192-bytes, then if you put a 4000 byte file on ur HDD, it'll still take up 8192 bytes. The other 4192 bytes are just empty space.

Am I right or now? If not, explain the correct meaning/definition of a Cluster...

Thanks in advance!

(fact was learned on degree course from a dr. so its gunan ne pretty accurate)

256 ram!!!!

/me points and laughs

if you want to open more than one IE, a media player and let say Word... you'll need more than 256. I'm exagerating but trust me I end up having at least 8 windows open at all time and it eats ram.

PS: whats the fuss about getting "the facts" from Dr. All my teachers are Dr. and most of the time they don't about computing in 2002.

a bad cluster is a cluster on your harddrive that has stoped workin properley, normalyy due to excessive use of the drive, so it gets marked bad and no data gets written there.

how many bits in a byte ?

how many bytes in a kilobyte

MB = ?
GB = ?
TB = ?
PB = ?
Fir3start3r
And what is the lesson?

Partition your drives.
Keep your OS separte from your DATA. Period.
I can't count the number of the times I've lost files because I had to 'reformat' the WHOLE drive because of the OS.

One other thing you can do to make things go a LOT faster is to have a directory just for all the drivers.
Put the drivers on the 'other' drive, again, away from the OS.
Believe me, I've had to do this lots in the past...:mad:

MB = 1024 kilobytes
GB = 1024 megabytes

etc

And I upgraded Win98 to XP without a problem .. I simply told it to leave the HD as FAT, not try and upgrade to NTFS. Have to say that I've never really had a problem with XP, been using it for nearly a year now...

U mean MEDIA. Because DATA is EVERYTHING, OS, games, Audio, Video, etc.
Media is Audio, Video, Photos/Images, Documents, CD Images (AKA ISOs), etc.

i feel for you man...i know what its like to lose MP3s multiple times...ive lost probably over 30GB(broken RAID stripes...hard drive crashes) to date and it sucks every time. next time just start backing up on CD-R's or if you have enough money get a backup drive...and keep your drives seperate. partition if you have to; it wont save you from a hard drive crash but it will from a reinstall...if you have loads of money just get a dvd burner 5gb per disc or 9gb mmmmmmmm that would be nice.
i wish you luck on your impending journey through "no music hell"
