So, regarding the logs, there are no specific warnings or errors that show when it tweaks out.

Are you using firefox? If so, try clearing out your history of stuff older than a month.

When my FF history gets huge, it'll freeze up for a long time while trying to search it all.

I mostly use Chrome.

My issue isn't just with the browser freezing, it's hammering the whole system (ie. any open programs hang until it's finished tweaking out).

God dammit Stu! "Tweaking out" isn't a term anyone can help you with :stongue:

worst case scenario, it could be that your hard drive is dying. shortly before mine died, I had symptoms similar to yours.

hopefully it's not the case, but I'd at least suggest start backing up the bird pics and anything else important to you just in case.

edit: check with the manufacturer of your hard drive, many times they offer programs that run a check to make sure everything in the hd is working okay.

Have you cleared your TA cache?

Download a trial of Acronis True Image and mirror your hard drive onto a fresh HD. That way if it dies you can swap HD's and pick up exactly where you left off.

Speaking of backing up, anyone have any recommendations for a good backup drive(one that will last)? Im looking for something with firewire and around 500 gigs of storage.

I dunno about firewire, but USB 2.0 is fast enough for me.
