hey guys,
i've been producing with cubase for the past couple years.. im really getting the hang of it now, but recently, iv been looking into REASON. i dont want to ask which one is better, because both of them im sure have great qualities of their own, but if i move to reason, would that kinda be a downgrade? i feel like im SO flexible with cubase and i can do everything possible with it... but i dono much about reason..

what do you guys think?
Mr.Mystery
Why not use both?

Wrong forum, by the way.
Emvy
im sorry of its the wrong forum, i didnt realize that.
i dont want to use both because i want to get the hang of one of them. i want to stick to one and just learn everything on one.
Subtle
Just go with Cubase, more options in the long run.

...then why are you even looking at Reason if you're already using Cubase?

Reason is easy and have a far more inspiring interface...also it does for a strange REASON give you more of that hidden creativity and motivation also. The sound in Reason is excellent. I would rather choose Ableton Live though.

Reason is a piece of poo imho.

1 ) Sound quality was good in the late '90s, now its FAR behind the competition.
2 ) No external FX or instruments make it very limited.
3 ) Have to buy a separate program to record, which is silly.
4 ) Even though its so lacking in almost every aspect (thanks to no external plugin support) they still charge a hell lot for it.

Saying all that it does have a few decent modules and presets on board, so if you like the sound you can reWire it with other host.

I'm willing to bet you couldn't even tell the difference.

You can try to mask the inferiorities and as I mentioned there are a handful of useful tools in there. But can you even get close to, lets say NI Massive with the sound quality of reasons synths ?

The obvious answer is no.

So maybe Sylenth 1 ?

No.

Or maybe some higher end reverbs ?

Well ... no.

How about a more advances sampler like Kontakt ?

... no

Can you use hi end compression ? Analogue tube gear emulations ?

Well ... no.

So that boils down to a question, what and how you use stuff. The synth, effects and sampler quality in Reason is equivalent to free vst and au plugs ... but you have to pay for it.

This is probably the dumbest question I've ever seen asked in this forum.
