Have to agree with you buddy!!
Don't think I'll go to another Tiesto show unless it's free...
but for now I'm so freakin' excited to see SvD knowing him torn Trance Energy apart couple weeks ago!!! |

Here is an interview that ATL NIGHTLIFE did with Sander van Doorn via telephone last Thursday. Enjoy
ATL NIGHTLIFE: Some people would be surprise to know you started DJing 6 years ago and basically taught yourself how to produce. How did to make that career choice?
SVD: My interest in music came at an early age. I started spinning as a hobby when I was 16 years old. About 7 years ago, I decided to release a few tracks and send it to a record label and that’s basically how it came about.
ATL NIGHTLIFE: What would you be doing right now if you did not pursue a career in music?
SVD: I’d probably still be working for my brother, he had an aluminum company, where I worked as a “Purchaser” and followed university at the same time for Corporate Management.
ATL NIGHTLIFE: You were named Top #10 on DJ Mag’s 2009 Top 100 DJ List. Do you find there to be a lot of rivalry or competition amongst your peers?
SVD: I get along with all my colleagues. My success is a result of a good year or a bad year; I try to follow my own way. We’ll see each other at the same party, we’ll have a drink and catch up… it’s all-good to be honest. I hang out a lot with Marco V and speak a lot to Armin Van Buuren, Ferry Corsten… guys like John O’ Callaghan, Gareth Emery… all those guys.
ATL NIGHTLIFE: Given a choice, do you prefer attending a music festival or performing in one?
SVD: I would definitely prefer to perform in one. I like the whole experience from the DJ Booth.
ATL NIGHTLIFE: You have a new DJ concept called “Dusk Til Doorn”, please tell us more.
SVD: “Dusk Til Doorn” is a DJ concept surrounding me for the night. I play an extended set and the whole night is built starting with House music and we go from there. I’ve done a few over in London and here in the States, like LA and Toronto. The response so far has been insane!
ATL NIGHTLIFE: With the summer season around the corner, how do you find balance in DJing and being in the studio.
SVD: It’s a very thin balance. Especially now, I’m on the road for a month tour in the US. I try to take off few weekends a year to get an ongoing studio session. I work with a great team; they make sure I get enough time to produce and free time for myself which is very rare.
ATL NIGHTLIFE: This year you’re under new management and PR group, how’s the transition been so far?
SVD: Great! I decided to go with a separate PR group for the US market. The transition is going quite well. This year everything seems to be falling in place.
ATL NIGHTLIFE: You have a new compilation available now on Beatport called Sander’s Identity Essentials. Fill us in on this exciting project.
SVD: It’s a selection of my records that I play a lot in my sets as well as on my Podcast (Identity). It’s what I’m all about, what Identity is all about, and now it’s available for fans to enjoy.
ATL NIGHTLIFE: It’s been awhile since you’ve been back to Atlanta, how was your last experience in Atlanta?
SVD: It was great. I still distinctly remember that night because I record all of my sets. If you listen at the end of the set, my manager gets on the mic and says in a really funny English accent, “This session has finally come to an end”, it made for a really funny moment and the crowd’s response was great.
ATNL: Did you have a chance to take in the local Atlanta scene?
SVD: No, that’s the only problem about with being a DJ or musicians in general. You get to see all these beautiful places but you are only in town for one day. You never really find time to enjoy a particular place.
ATL NIGHTLIFE: You are scheduled to take center stage at Opera Nightclub in Atlanta on April 21, 2010. What can your audience anticipate?
SVD: I try to keep my options quite diverse. I started out producing trance and playing trance but I’ve expanded with different styles of music, like more house and “techy” beats. I try to be as diverse as possible and mix different genres. It’s always crowd driven and sometimes a bit euphoric. I like to experience the night like a journey.
ATL NIGHTLIFE: Do you have any advice for local DJs trying to make it center stage?
SVD: Try to find your own style. It’s good to have a local residency where you can get into the swing of things and comfortable playing in front of an audience. It’s hard to be a DJ these days, you need to produce tracks as well and basically find your own sound other than the ones out there.

That was an AWESOME NIGHT!!! I think my be one of my all-time favorite club nights. Tiesto was in the middle of one of the nastiest mixes I have EVER witnessed and he took his headphones off grabbed another pair out of his bag and kept on spinning. INSANITY!!! |
