The urge to please...

Does anyone have a really guttural reaction to having to reject people that have praised you?

I have had this happen a couple times recently where I just get this horrible feeling where I have to decline an offer for something.

Twice I have been asked to join development teams for other modifications for this game I play and I feel horrible doing it because they seem really impressed with my work. :(

Feels like I have an obligation to make sure people are always happy... I still can muster the will to tell people no, I'm not a doormat by any means (unless they are female and hot... ).

Oh well. Random rant done.

Only ugly guys do when a hot woman gives them attention.

:p

No but seriously, I've never had an urge to shut down people for no reason. I'm just too God damn nice, even at times when I should be a complete .
Ian
nah. I just convince myself that they're ****s anyway. it sure helps.

if something includes more work and no benefit, you can be guaranteed i will be saying ' no'.

In a work situation it's a tough call because ideally you want to be approached with opportunities that will further your career, but you don't want to be that guy that always says yes and people walk over. Likewise, you don't want to be the guy that always says no and eventually shuts himself down.

i used to be like that as a kid/early teen but then you gotta realize that *you* have to come first. i still see people that are like that occasionally; it's pathetic.

Yea, I've always put myself first. :p Just when people come to you and are like "oh we are really impressed!" and you are like "oh... sorry... already obligated" Feel like I am letting them down... :p

Oh well.

Too bad these compliments and turn downs dont involve money... :(
