13 PERCENT invites the internationally acclaimed and highly talented DJ / Producer, Mathias Kaden. Fresh off the release of his debut LP “Studio 10” on Vakant last year, this will mark Mathias’ second Montreal appearance after having dazzled thousands of music lovers with a Live PA and most memorably his DJ set alongside Onur Ozer at MUTEK in 2008. Kaden performs a 3-hour DJ set filled with hypnotically hip-swinging samba grooves, heat infused jazz, the flair and temperament of Latin rhythmic percussion, all cleverly arranged in the form of house & techno music. Kaden’s influences lay deeply embedded in African and South American percussion, bringing to life natural acoustic instruments to electronic dance music.This event will be held at the Cabaret Juste Pour Rire located at 2111 St-Laurent, corner of Sherbrooke. 13 PERCENT resident Ostrich ensures warm up duties as the door opens at 10pm.

MATHIAS KADEN'S BIOGRAPHY
Whether it is opening, primetime or afterhour slots, Mathias’ intuition for the crowd and location, proves each time again that he lives for his profession. His music is both, distinctly ambitious and refreshing. Following the House music of the 90s, he works thoroughly to create new sound structures. For a while, he has been using different types of percussion elements. The result is an enjoyable rhythm, which communicates with its audience in a very particular way. In a playful approach, he creates an incredible repertoire of feelings that reproduces within the crowd.
Inspired and motivated by the first House & Techno DJs at Bioxultra in Gera he got his first turntables at the age of 14. One could argue it is necessary to live wherever the sound rises at a particular time. However, Mathias draws on his own strengths. Away from sated urban in- and output, he has always maintained the objectivity for his music.
For 12 years, he has been the resident DJ of the well-known club Muna. Not only does he DJ there, but also supports talented artists within the Freshblood project. Additionally, he is jointly responsible for the Klanglauf events at Kassablanca in Jena, as a DJ and organizer. Together with Marek Hemmann, Mathias released EPs on the label Freude am Tanzen and 5 solo EP’s on Vakant including his debut album "Studio 10". Amongst others, he also recorded remixes for Noze, Trentemöller, Matthias Tanzmann, Onur Özer, Dapayk, Anja Schneider, Daniel Stefanik and countless others,
DJing has been his occupation for 13 years, which eventually helped to hone his skills in the production of electronic music. Mathias refuses to produce and release music excessively. Thus the necessity to make records that will remain long lasting is one of the guiding motifs of his profession. |
