Congratulations on identifying shapes. You may now move on to senior kindergarten.
Actually, the Canadian flag was simply the Union Jack of the UK for a long time. It wasn't until the 60s that it became what it is today. Lester B. Pearson actually risked his political career to fight for a flag that was uniquely Canadian.
I found the quote--
"Under this Flag may our youth find new inspiration for loyalty to Canada; for a patriotism based not on any mean or narrow nationalism, but on the deep and equal pride that all Canadians will feel for every part of this good land."
The red on it represents the Cross of St. George (one of the most celebrated military heroes in Christianity) and the white on it, I believe, is taken from the national emblem of France to symbolize the French/English history of Canada.
and OMG yours is just lines. ING LINES!
and stars... what are you - GAY??
;)
Retard. Pick up a ing history book.
Just a couple of FYIs... There was no official Canadian flag until the Flag Act; however, the UK Union Flag (union jack) was really only used for military uniforms, the Canadian Red Ensign was used for everything official. The use of the red from the St.George cross has less to do with St. George then it does honouring English heritage. The white is taken from the Royal emblem of France, not the national.

Understandably people will try to make up after the fact to give it some noble meaning and cover up the poor imagination of the inventor..It's still a stupid idea..the same as calling your dollars "loonies".
loonies and a leaf = lols
Don't "ania" me lol
We are not on a first-name basis.
It's not your fault that you're ignorant. I'm aware that you only learn the history of the US of A and haven't the faintest clue about global events that shaped your nation.
I'll play along for your sake. America is indeed the centre of the universe. That's why you have stars on your flag. duhhhhhh

Just as the 13 stripes are said to represent the colonies and the proported symbolsim behind the red, white and blue is utter bull. Your flag is nothing more then the East India Trading Company flag with the St. George and St. Andrew's crosses replaced by stars. Honestly, what does it say when a nation can't even come up with an original design for their national symbol but rather just modifies the symbol of the largest corporation of the times. The US flag is the 1700s equivalent to a country today using the Royal Dutch Shell logo as their flag.

The east india trading company shipped lumber among other things. In other words, they shipped piles of entire trees. Your flag just has something that fell off a single tree. Therefore our flag is superior. Accept it and move on.

Really, superior? Are you actually attempting to argue that there is an objective standard for the quality of a flag's design. All I'm pointing out is that while you mock our flag's symbolism while arguing that your flag's symbolism is more meaningful (again entirely subjective) the truth is that your flag symbolises nothing other then the loyalty the elits in your nation felt toward the trading system that made them wealthy enough to fund a war. Essentially, your flag was a marketing decision to garner favor from corporate interests... be proud, be very very proud.
