Never really had the chance to listen to breaks.. but these sets posted up here are mint! You guys should post up upcoming events in the events section. J Hazen and Bill Vega.. some top notch mixing! If anybody knows some good set dl sites / other DJs to check out for some good breaks, please do post up some links.. This is refreshing.. especially after hearing the same tech house sound everywhere in Toronto for the past 2 years.

this puts a huge smile on my face and just cements my decision to really do something about the lack of breaks in toronto.

Sweet videos Xavier! Also thank you for the link! I like this funky ghetto electro breaks sound thats coming form the UK. It's got so much attitude to it. Gets you grooving nicely. Heard some of it last time I was in London. Dubstep is pretty sweet too.. just recently started getting into it. I have plenty of respect for Shackleton and Appleblim. I'd love to see them in Toronto one day. You're right.. Toronto does need to step it up with its breaks, dubstep, and d&b scene. In terms of breaks Bill Vega is wicked. I'm searching for some more sets of his right now. 32 minutes into his Definition of Breaks set is my cup of tea.. That chunky techy progressive sound.. wow! I guess this is what you refer to as the old skool sound right as opposed to the nuskool sound.. which i'm guessing is the more electro/hip hop oriented sound?

for the longest time i was the poster boy for funky/old school breaks and, sadly, i've completely ignored the dark side of breaks. i mean, im all for them happy, giddy, ass shaking sounds but they've lacked something.
like jad said, i think it was the attitude. and then comes deekline, god bless him and his dirty ways.
booty/b-more/electro breaks gives us that razor sharp edge thats been missing from the scene. some of you remember the days of system/orange room/charlies when we had top notch talent, spinning everything from R.A.T.M. to "i like big butts". remember people busting such a hard, badass moves that the chunks of the floor were flying around literally??
and then, overnight, it was all gone. i guess just like house, breaks had to make space for something new. the thing is, not just fans turned to dubstep, dj's, promoters...everybody abandoned breaks for a bunch of bleeps and bloops.
BUT, what they didnt count on was people like deekline. the man is single handedly reinventing breaks, with such a force, attitude and backed up by a TON of underground talent...
i havent been this excited about music in ages. thing are about to change in such a dramatical way... wait and see.
