the reason i ask is i have cubase sx3 and i love it i was thinking of getting a new computer but went to steinbergs website and found out that vervion sx3 is not compatible with windows 7 ,and i dont want to buy a new computer with an older os like xp ,and macs are out of the question only version 5.5 is compatible with windows 7 So is it worth it to spend 4 or 500 on the newer cubase or just stay with win xp and use sx3 ,id like to hear from some people who do actually use cubase 5 if its worth it im sure i can find a deal on ebay for a lot less than 400. |

I mostly like the plugins that 5 comes with and how easy sidechaining is. The plugins in Cubase 5 are actually usable! :eyes: |

While I don't use Cubase nearly as much as I did years ago, my experience is that Cubase 5 on Windows 7 (32-bit in my case) is the most stable configuration of Cubase/Windows ever. I've had no crashes with it yet.
But, again, I don't use it every day, so take it for what it's worth. |

Cubase 5 is much better than its predecessors without a doubt, although Loopmash is a joke, and the bundled plugins are still below par.
The ability to sidechain and record channels into each other is awesome.
One of the biggest advantages with running Cubase 5 on a 64 bit OS is of course the utilization of RAM, which is limited to about 1.3 GB before the program starts behaving unstable and crashing.
Id say go for it, its a HUGE step from 3 and 4. |

The upgrade to C5 from SX3 should be $199, unless of course, you don't really own SX3. |

if that is the case , he doesn't really have to "own" cubase 5 either. |

5 is a huge improvement over SX3 and a lot more stable, though I run it on XP. |

It's about time. I swapped from an old version of FL to SX2 and soon swapped back, the SX2 effects were absolute , especially the phaser and flange. |

I do own cubase sx3 i like to exaggerate a bit in my posts actually, when i said 400 or 500 i know you can update to 5. for 199$ but my whole point is if cubase is working well for me on a slower xp machine why even upgrade ,but if 64 bit is way better then may upgrade. As i dont want to run 64 bit cubase on a 32 bit xp os.
I never was crazy about cubase plug ins im more concerned if its stable. |

Wiin 7 is still experimental. Some people have lots of success , others have lots of issues. VST plugins are still designed for xp. Probably will change in the next year but xp is still the most robust audio OS |
