| also chile is a more developed country. both countries lie pretty much over tectonic plate borders so geographically both are aware of the risks, economically chile has enough money to be able to build decent homes whereas port au prince is/was basically a giant shanty town on the side of a hill designed as well as a block of jenga tiles mid-game. |

saying "its not as bad" is a cop out. According to the Red Cross, 500,000 homes are uninhabitable thanks to this earthquake. Thats a lot of desperate homeless people. Go to the middle of the disaster area in Chile and tell them its not as bad.
unfortunately the stereotypes in people's minds do not allow them to be as guilt tripped as they were for haiti.
Im happy for all the help haiti got. But i knew there was another reason behind it. |

so just because fewer people died, the world should just shrug it off saying "meh...it's ok...it's not 300,000 ? is it?"
More survivors without homes/food = more mouths that need feeding. |

It's a stretch to say that has been the world's response. It seems like that in Canada simply because our media has been saturated by the Olympics.
But to expect that the donations and relief effort should or would compare to that in Haiti is completely unrealistic. It's important but the scale is so so much smaller. Not simply in terms of the number of deaths, but just general destruction of local infrastructure etc. |

The first mistake was the world helping Haiti....now they kinda screwed themselves into helping Chile. |
