Extreme ambient, sound scape, chill out type stuff. Also things you would expect to hear in a film. I am planning to write my own score soon over a muted movie that has extremely limited and unimportant dialogue (in my opinion).....Dracula (1992) - Not doing it for any other reason than to do it. No, I don't think I can do a better job than Wojciech Kilar/Anton Coppola (LOL?)....just want to try it.

My 2 last tracks where house and prog. So definately not the style I normally produce.
I feel you have to experiment with different genres from time to time.

Right now I'm focused on some dark/ambient/dubstep kinda stuff. I've also been making a lot of downtempo/trip hop material as of late. Also, I collaborate with my friend who makes a lot of rock music from time to time.

you must be extremely boring as a musician if you make a 32 bar intro and 64 bar outro on every single track when you don't have to then :haha:

i don't limit myself to anything either, but i'm saying that i'm experimenting with things i previously havn't.

I've always found it very difficult to stick to one genre. Probably because I have a very broad taste in music. While four-to-the-floor EDM (trance/house/techno) is my main style, I've had a lot of fun messing with orchestral, ambient, downtempo, hip-hop, breaks and dnb. Even made a few bucks selling hip-hop beats to some kids from my hood!

Some people say it's better to focus on one genre and master it. I can see the logic behind that and I agree you should spend a lot of time learning your craft, but I think if you expand your horizons and learn new skills you can only benefit in the end. Another cool thing is watching how 'your style' develops and translates from genre to genre.

Lately, I've been interested in making chip tunes. I'm a bit late on the whole fad, I know, but that's fine by me. If anyone's interested, check out this program:
Famitracker. It's a free windows tracker used for writing tracks for NES/Famicom. It can be a lot of fun to take a break from the sequencer and think differently for a bit.

Here's a video of it in action(not my work):

You guys mentioned trip hop, I experimented with that and enjoyed it. It's a real break from the Trance 4/4 kick drum. I really enjoy composing varied, creative, complex drum lines. Sometimes I write a track without putting any genre limitations on myself, come up with some intriguing music that way. A few tracks sound Cinematic, brooding, beat driven. Not sure if it would sell to the mainstream, or if any EDM labels would even take it. It's good to try different styles, it broadens your horizons, makes you grow as an artist. You never know where it might take you. I hate to say it, but I've even experimented with hip hop.

Some hip hop is actually pretty cool. I'm not a huge fan of the rapping part, but some subtle phrases can fit quite well. There are crazy instrumental tracks out there.
