| Yeah you pretty much sound like an old lame faggot. Your misanthropic years will be so much better. The real deal, not your confused 18 year old idea of it/them. You'll see. |

Well that's true enough. I did not mean to assert that I know myself now or something like that, because you're right - to know oneself is to open up a whole slew of platitudes and pitfalls subject to change at virtually any time. But the 18 year-old me who thought he was honestly in love was an idiot, and did not know the extent of nature's veritable labyrinth. 23 year-old me is able to admit he does not know; I find there is truth in being as bare with oneself as possible, and it's getting colder by the day. |
To be aware of one's ignorance is to be less ignorant than most, an overestimation of one's own knowledge is a fault common to people of all ages, though it can manifest itself in different ways.
But with love the problem is first and foremost definitional: it's not as if there's some fixed mental state which we can objectively define as "love." So I've come to find the most practical definition of love to be one about which you cannot be mistaken: if you think you are in love, then you are, because that's precisely what love is.
Even if I did accept some other formulation, however, I would doubt the capacity of retrospective observation to accurately characterize a mental state as "love" or "something less." I think it's really an intractable problem: you can't recreate the conditions that generated the mental state, and any reflective analysis will invariably be contaminated by the knowledge of what was to come. |

Like the sound of ill-fitting dentures clacking together as you chew an egg-salad sandwich in an under-salivated mouth, and the lady sitting next to you just ripped a wet fart. |
