Apparently he had some extra dough on him since his office budget was relatively frugal, so he returned the extra allotted money. He did the same thing last year, except it was only $90,000. I don't know why he doesn't just take that money and use it to campaign for 2012.

Washington, D.C. - Congressman Ron Paul has continued to run his Congressional office in a frugal manner, and was able to return more than $100,000 from his allotted office budget to the Treasury this year, an increase over the $90,000 returned last year.
“Since my first year in Congress representing the 14th district I have managed my office in a frugal manner, instructing staff to provide the greatest possible service to the people of the 14th district at the least possible cost to taxpayers,” said Paul.

I still feel like no matter how much he looks like a good guy, he will never get elected. Thoughts? |

I'm sure he won't get elected. I think he gets far too much flak from people. Many of his policies are unorthodox but he undoubtedly has the best of intentions, I can't help but root for him. He's completely right in his position that conservatives have lost their way. The republican party may as well be renamed the neoconservative party. If he became president everyone knows the Fed and IRS wouldn't disappear. He wouldn't have that kind of executive power.
He would, however, do one thing that I have yet to hear a president claim and follow through with: dramatically tone down our foreign policy. The amount we spend every day to maintain our hundreds of bases is appalling and thoroughly unnecessary. I think he's completely right that our foreign policy is choking us. Complete non-interventionism is impossible, but maintaining 700+ military bases is also impossible if we wish to maintain our standard of living and too often his advocacy of completely legitimate policies aren't talked about. Rather it's his other extreme positions that are talked about and ridiculed by moronic talking-heads on Faux News.
He also may be the only creationist in the country that staunchly advocates state secularism, which is very noble for a man with his dogma. |

He seems like a great guy for sure. I'd love to sit back and have a beer with him while talking about our most radical ideas on how the world should change. Also, seeing him in Bruno was hilarious.
But would he make a good president? Well that's kind of unproven, but like you said, D-Res, the position just doesn't have enough power to impose some of the changes he sees are needed. |

| If ron paul were an MP in my country I would throw rocks at him. He’s a myopic, fear-mongering tool with no idea of how to fix the problems he identifies. |

Really? You think he would be able to convince congress to remove even 100 of our bases? I highly doubt that. Unfortunately, America has made a lot of enemies with some of the other countries on this planet, so it seems to be in our nature to always remain on the defensive.

Ron Paul has a few too many extreme positions, which is what will definitely lose him an election. He would need to exercise reason when it comes making most federal laws up to the state. |

I laughed so hard when I heard that, the irony of an vehemently anti-immigration politician being forced to emigrate because she was such an abject failure, hope she ends up in a council flat in somewhere like Birmingham or Liverpool...
It is one of the redeeming facets of Australian politics, aside from the noticeably obvious aspect that they're all fairly much ineffectual losers, is that the general population holds them in about as much regard as used car salesmen.
Not to be trusted EVER and derided to the point they know their place as servants. |

Excellent. That didn't happen to involve an oversized work boot, did it? |

| $100K is less than pennies when compared with what the Fed, which Paul wants to dismantle, gave to Treasury this year. |
