Djs for this months installment:-
One of our ditinguished guests this month - one of the nicest guys you could ever meet and loves his tunes like nobodies business - also happens to be his birthday:-
OLIVES

A strong fan of the undergroud scene Olives has involved himself with electronic music since he was 16.
His love for electronic music came about almost by accident. As a teenage punk-wannabe he decided he wanted to start a weekly radio show in Echuca and was told 'Any genre is fine, just not punk'. Eventually the very vague term 'Electronic music' was agreed upon, allowing him to explore and fall in love with techno, progressive house, minimal, tribal, psy-trance, house dnb etc.
This passion for music was briefly confused with a passion for Broadcasting but after moving to Melbourne to study Commercial Radio and the lecturer opening the course with "If you're here because you love music, there's the door..." Olives felt lost.
After a year or two making mixes for friends (using Radio production software) he got the smallest decks and mixer he could find and played at every opportunity: friends birthdays, new-years mansion parties, kitchen raves and backyard parties. One of the 'backyard parties' evolved into regular club night The Clarity and Olives supported some of his underground heroes in Kasey Taylor, Jamie Stevens, Gavin Keitel, Rollin Connection, PQM, Luke Chable, Ozzy La and played with some of Melbournes most respected up-&-comers including Dave Juric, Xitation, Phil Moore, Alam and Jules PLees.
Other influences include Oliver Huntemann, Phil K, John Tejada, Dnox & Beckers, John Selway, Layo & Bushwacka, Gui Boratto, Pig & Dan, Gabriel Ananda, Umek, Format B, Richie Hawtin, Carl Cox, and Kraftwerk.

And now one of our trusty favourite residents -
Xitation

XiTatiON aka Jonathan Morcom, a relativity new name doing the round of melbtown playing his own blend of Progressive/Psy/Techno.
Xi isn't new to the club scene in Melbourne having spent many nights in dark, loud underground clubs listening to some of the best progressive/techno and psychedelic sounds the world has to offer.* Only in the past two year or so has Xi managed to be involved in some relativity new nights in Melbourne named "The Clarity" and “Loose” which has enabled him to start playing music out in clubs, making the transition from bashing out sounds at home (much to his Neighbours disgust) to now having resident gigs at The Clarity and Loose party’s. In this time Xi has had the opportunity to play with some of his favourite Melbourne underground DJ’s including Simon Slieker, Gavin Keitel, Rollin Connection, PQM, Jamie Stevens, Ozzie LA and Jono Fernandez as well as also playing alongside Pole Folder last year.
In an Inpress DJ Booth interview Xi was asked "In a nutshell, describe what you play..." his response was "munty progressive tracks" which perfectly sums up the sound you are likely to hear him playing.
When asked what type of music is his favourite he responded "I love all electronic music, but progressive is my home or safe place that you can always come back to, after taking an adventure over to the Techno or Tech House or Psytance side for a while."* Having grown up loving the sounds of Hybrid, James Zabiela, Vibrasphere, Neelix, Nubreed, Infusion, Crystal Method and Danny Howells to name some of his favourites, his taste of music is very broad.* This shows in all of Xi's gigs, he always tries to blend the elements from all these genres to create his own unique munty sound.
Keep your eye out for XiTatiON, often found out and about around Melbourne clubs/pubs and bars.
"Come say hi I don't bite, much... :P"
Xitation has just recently had a slot on JJJ's saturday overnight show - needless to say - it was Rockin |
