The Doubletree downtown is about 3/4 of a mile from the venue. The People Mover runs during the day, however, and goes directly from the hotel to the venue for 50 cents. I'm staying at the Doubletree downtown , along with some friends, who are fun party people. So, this hotel should be a party in itself!

Avoid the Leland at all costs, that place is a hole, and although it seems like a good deal, you'd have a better stay sleeping in the back seat of your car.

The Courtyard Mariott is probably the most baller in terms of hotels, it's much nicer than the Ren Cen, and also a lot more lax in terms of security.

The New Book Cadillac hotel, in midtown by the New Center is very accommodating, and a very short drive/bus ride from the park, <10 miles.

The Ren Cen, as said above, will give you wrist bands(they did in previous years) so that you cant get tons of friends/new friends into your hotel. They are also very strict about coolers. Inflatable coolers are always a good idea during this weekend, as well as the bath tub.

Public transportation in Detroit consists of two bus systems-The DDOT(city bus) and the SMART(the 'burbs bus) as well as the Soul Train(people mover).

I can post a much more comprehensive guide if anyone wishes, or if anyone has any questions, about venues, restaurants, anything. I have lived in Detroit all my life, and I go to school Downtown as well.

Some friends here in NY absolutely hate the RenCen. They said the main reason was that it took like 45 mins to get to their rooms from Hart Plaza, and that security was ridiculous. Most recommended Greektown and said the walk would be shorter to the Atheneum than to a room in the RenCen, lol.

The Leland Hotel usually has sweet afterparties.. at least last year there was.

lol. I wouldn't go there again. Stuff kept falling from the ceiling. It's literally a hole in the wall.

Lots of good after parties, I heard a Drum Code rumor yesterday while at flying lotus and almost peed my pants.

I didn't have any of the aforementioned issues with the RenCen last year... :conf:
