the only spec that i am concerned about is the gain and the digiwave seems to be the best and is the least expensive (almost half the price of the antennas direct). i might just go with that. |
The heck with the specs... it's not a clone computer ffs.
All those specs mean nothing if you don't have height. Height is #1 to get the best line of sight to the stations' stowers.
Both SM4228 and AD DB8 are rated both the best, and rated eually... one picks up better on the lower UHF spectrum, mine does better in higher UHF.
This chart gives you the best professional test results on antennas: http://www.hdtvprimer.com/ANTENNAS/comparing.html
I played with the perfect setup for days and hours, direction, ... you know what worked best for me??? My classic radio shack ufo antenna, which has a built-in pre-amp and rotator. I'm going to get the newer one this spring with a wireless rotator remote. Yes, this works better than my db8, pre-amp, and amp.

^^ how many HD channels would you say you get with it?
Doesn't the weather affect reception? |

well, my antenna is mounted on the south-facing wall of my second floor (above the roof of my garage). should i spend the money on an 8-bay? or should i just keep my current setup and stick with canadian networks? |

| oh, you won't find digiwave compared or rated much because it's a cheap clone of my DB8. How much you trust a knock-off is up to you |

at least 20... I usually leave the antenna pointed one way to get those because from Aurora, the CN Tower and Buffalo is almost in a straight line. Anyone up between the 404-400 highways is in heaven. I only use the rotator to fine-tune fox and PBS.
Weather... not very often... it takes quite a storm to pixelate my picture.
Don't forget I'm in Aurora, and not at the highest point, so I'm doing superbly well above the average OTA user. Richmond Hill, Markham and Vaughn users have a much better advantage than I

You have no height. Set it on top of a 12' pole, and your 4-bay will outperform any 8-bay mounted on your wall.
If you have a clear line of sight to the CN Tower (can you actually see it from your antenna position), you're OK for Canadian channels. The 2 stations from the BMO building are a litttle weaker. Buffalo needs height. I moved my antenna from above the garage to the roof, and trippled my channels. I added a pole extension, and got about 3 more stations. |

I have a non-amplified TERK and I get all the main US HD (ABC/CBS/FOX/NBC/PBS/CW) channels and Canadian ones too. $30
(being high up, near downtown with a clear line of sight helps) :) |
