Put a donk on it. :haha:
Just kidding, honestly, some people like to put nothing, while others use one or more plugins. Personally I have a couple of different chains that I use because I like to mix into a "mastering" channel, so that the product sounds as finished as possible while I'm working on it. I have a couple of different chains with 2 or 3 compressors, and a couple of EQ's on there.
Basically each compressor adds a bit of tonal colour to the finished product, and the EQ's keep certain frequencies in check, then it all runs into a limiter. If you search around a bit, I detailed out the mastering chains I use along with the purpose of each plugin a few months back. |

i mix quite low, so i just wack an adaptive limiter on the master to raise the overall volume so i don't have to have my speakers cranked...
i leave all the n00b mastering plugs till i'm finished just so i know when i get it professionally mastered and have to take off the n00b plugs it'll still sound good...
plus the n00b mastering plugs really do sound better when you put them on at the end and just add a tiny bit of extra polish :) |

T-RACS - classic compressor, Fairchild 670, Pulteq EQ, linear phase EQ then brickwall limiter then dithering plug.
I used to master separately but now I like to more or less have a finnished pumping loaf come out the over. |
