Another issue with this is that Cubase handles multiple CPU in a strange way too, i think it has somethign to do with th eOS being set for mulriple CPU and Cubase being set with multiple CPU.
Goto devices>VST Audio system and UNTICK the multi processor box - stopped my ASIO indicator jumping up and down like a £3 whore :) works perfectly now :) |

Erm
Does that not stop Cubase utilising all cores or does the OS dish out the goods on behalf of Cubase? (XP Pro 32 and Cubase Studio 4.5.2 btw) |

Ok Ta
I've just built a system built around a Q9400 and was a bit concerned that the performance so far seemed little better than the Athlon X2 6000 I was using before  |

I switched to a Quad recently and its faster for sure, but its not THAT noticable.. unless you start doing various stuff at the same time, then you start noticing the performance increase. |

| well after deactivating this in Cubase my 8 core seems to stil luse all 8 cores so i guess the OS takes care of this. |

Well tbh I only chose a quad as I had to build a dedicated audio PC anyway, you really should see the state of my old 'do it all' machine ;)
I'm hoping the quad will make a bit of a difference on my massively CPU intensive projects on SOME level!!

I never ran out of CPU power with the 6000+ anyways so..

Well luckily i'll have both machines up and running at the same time so I can load up identical projects and see which performs best.
Anyhoo, back to the OP (sorry  ) |

Actually as a point of interest i have posted my 8 core picture here and it seems that its not using all 8 cores after all, looks like 6 to me with Cores 2 and 6 not being used at all, i wonder what the OS is doing?

As i know fekk all about multi core machines i wil lget back to the OP. |

I have 8 cores, no HT.
Its an Intel Core i7 720QM 1.6GHz on my Alienware M15x Laptop :) |
