I can see where this guy is coming from, since salt is terrible for you.

But I can't see any reality where it doesn't exist in restaurants. I would basically shut down all Chinese places (their food is basically all salt) and could you imagine fast food fries without it?

I cannot live without salt :o

i'm all for it. Went to a Turkish restaurant the other day and the food was so damn salty I spent the rest of the night chugging water. It's absolutely possible to adjust your taste buds gradually to appreciate food without salts. All that salt does is over-stimulate your taste buds, so you naturally require high amounts of salt if you're used to that - otherwise food doesn't taste good. But salt has no nutritional value, its only effects are harmful. So if you gradually take down the levels of salt in food, eventually you can appreciate food with no salt at all.

I am a chef at a top-flight restaurant in Manhattan. There is salt in every dish served at every decent restaurant in town. Your soup has salt in it. Your salad is seasoned with salt. Fish, meat, poultry, all salted before cooking. Etc., etc. Salt makes food taste more like itself, and without it...god, I don't even want to think about it.

I need my salt. I mean salt is the best seasoning. It goes good with almost everything.

I cook my steak with salt and than add more after it's done. I eat tomatoes with salt, and also eat sour apples with salt.

I thought the last one was normal until I mentioned it to some people, and they gave me a weird look.

Anyway just imagine saltless mash potatoes. If they ban salt from being used in restaurants when cooking, I will probably finish the whole salt shaker on the table.

A salt ban is just ridiculous. Food tastes different when you add the salt while cooking than when you add after it's cooked. A good cook just knows how to season while cooking, food doesn't need loads of salt.

What ever happened to good eating habits? Obesity in this country is more of a problem than anywhere else in the world. The government needs to tell Americans how to eat because they don't know how to not kill themselves? It's absurd.
