| Hey Guys, Well the guys who put positive comments in reply to this thread. Thanks. Oakenfold is who he is & he is responsible for whatever he is responsible for. History, Be it Wiki or otherwise tells it how it is. For the other illiterate s who have got nothing better to say than reply with abuse & profanities & insults, well they're just a waste of time & a waste of space. Not worth taking the time to read their comments. I'm sure they're uneducated, unemployed welfare sponging druggies who just don't have the braincells or common sense to say anything thats worth reading. Don't think i'll come back to find out either if thats the kind of s you've got on these forums. |

He was special. He had/played tunes nobody got access to. I don't care what you say, doing what he did in the 90's was something else, and not many DJ's were able to do that, back then.
He introduced electronic music to an entire generation, and that in itself is very special. |

He had the special ability to market himself and spot opportunities. He was an A&R guy and an agent before he was a DJ. He got hold of good records, signed good records, worked with the right people. That's why I've never cared in the slightest about his commercial achievements or whatever, because they are the achievements of a businessman, not an artist.
He's also got the benefit of a legion of clapped-out 90s trance veterans who will triumph him to the bitter end. All the other superstar trance jocks have got the clueless newbies to sustain their myth, but Oakenfold has managed the opposite. |

I have a lot of respect for Paul Oakenfold.
He is a great person and he is responsible for building this scene, giving people a great alternative to major label music and creating the environment where young people of modest means and noble intentions have a voice to be heard.

paul is a legend. no doubt.
if I had to pick a dj to remember the scene by Id rather it was someone like oakenfold than any of the cheesy, sanitized, poll obsessed trance djs that dominate today. to me, they have no soul.
like him or hate him, oakenfold is the real deal. |

ive got respect for the guy - he created the template from which all these superstars are now using. just somewhere along the line he began to follow trends instead of creating them - thats wherehe lost me. still have fond memories of the old good stuff though. |
