Hi !
So I'm literally new to Logic 8 (and Mac) , I came from PC and Cakewalk environment, so I guess I need someone to teach me this step by step.
I use Logic Studio 8 and a number of external hardware synths.
Lest say, I want to use my Roland XV-5080 with Logic Studio 8, so I can select all the sounds FROM the Logic Studio 8. How should I setup the Logic, so I can do this (XV-5080 has also some expansion cards). What I need is that I can see the soundnames (patchnames) in the Logic Studio 8 and when I select the patch inside the Logic, I get the same patch in Roland XV-5080.
In Cakewalk I selected my midi interface as the MIDI output, loaded the Roland XV-5080 and expansiord cards *.ins file (instrument definition) to Cakewalk an that was it. Next time I opened Cakewalk, I had just to select channel, choose what bank (or expansion card) of Roland XV-5080 I want to use for this channel from drop menu and choose the pathcname from the submenu. Everything worked as gold.
In Logic - i can choose some of the banks, couple of the expansion cards, I see no patchnames, so I must do the "blind surf", whn I wrote the patchnames manually to the menu, next time I opened Logic, it was all gone....
I hope You understand, what I mean and need.. |

;)
Just download the 5080 enviroment here.
What you really need is sounddriver by emagic. It will pop up with the names and all. But emagic was bought off by apple who decided to stop supporting this. :whip:
Why? if I know.
You can run this legacy sounddriver application for free but you need a copy of logic 7 with the usb key. This is why I am still fukin with 7 instead of 8. Plus with 7 you can run more tracks and it will hang in there with you. Logic 8 is givin my computer a hard time.
Anyway dis what soundriver look like:

See see...
Then by clickin on the patch the whole synth engine pops up and you can modify the presets and everything. s deep.
And if you go in user performaces you can combine them in any order and track 5-6 sounds together by creating new midi files in logic on different midi channels and then routing that to different audio outputs on the synth (by hard-panning the soundz to mono and everything and make the whole beat faster. I only track strings/pads ect in stereo. Most of the sounds I track in mono. But some soundz got stereo effects on them that you might wanna keep or are already doubled (guitars ect)
Giving you some cool tips here
Good luck. |

Hei !
This enviroment file does not work with Logic Pro 8 :-(
How sad is that. It says - this is for Logic 7 or older.
So any other ideas to use Logic 8 with external MIDI without need to DOWNGRADE !?
Maybe I can make my own enviroment file somehow ?
I open Logic, make a track with external midi.
Whn I double click to the Track name a window pops up that has Device name, Short device name, Bank, BAnk message. SOmehow I must have a way to enter all the parameters here manually (including the patch names) and access all the banks and expansion boards on XV-5080 and SAVE THI SETTING !
I scrolled through the Bank message and Bank menus, I was able to access banks A B C, GM and three of my cards, I was able to type in the correct patch names, but that was it. I couldnt acess other 5 banks and three cards and when i closed Logic and opened again, all the patch names and setiings were gone
But I know there must be a way to do it somehow. |
