Horror Movie Recommendation
View this Thread in Original format
Jarvmeister
Having avidly read the Movie Recommendations thread, and watched a couple of good one from there, I want to hear about some decent horror movies please.

I do like:

Session 9
Ils (Them)
Paranormal Activity

I do not like:

Anything overly gorey, it just makes things less real for me.

I suppose I like chillers - any good ones to suggest?

Dead Silence

The Fourth Kind was pretty decent.

Cheers chaps,

I shall watch both of these.

Coming later, after finishing my weekly Tuesday ritual of watching the latest House episode after work while having an awesome Paulaner Salvator Starkbier.

Also, am I now the c0r Eurodance AND weird horror movie guru?!?! How the hell is that combination even possible? :wtf:

I thought [REC] was really good. Some gore, but great suspense.

Room 1408 was IMO outstanding and underrated, highly recommended.

:stongue:

You just reminded me I have to download the latest House episode too. 'Universal Channel', which broadcasts it for Latin America is behind by like 4 episodes and I don't like to wait. :p

OK, of course make sure you've seen the classics: Hellraiser, Helloween, Nightmare on Elm Street, usually only part 1 and 2. For newer stuff try Jacob's Ladder, Event Horizon or Session 9. If you feel brave watch Eraserhead, if you feel very brave watch Begotten. For pure weirdness try Uzumaki (Vortex) or Gozu. Also, of course, Lost Highway, solely for the Mystery Man scene. Not entirely horror, but some more movies to watch could be Eyes without a Face, The Vanishing, Videodrome and Dead Ringers. For gore go with stuff by Lucio Fulci or Dario Argento and Takashi Miike.

Apart from that check Eraserhead, and Lynch shorts like The Grandmother and Rabbits. Onibaba is a nice older movie, as is Polanski's Repulsion and of course his classic Rosemary's Baby and 1962's Carnival of Souls. A Tale of two Sisters is a good Korean movie from 2003. If you liked Pan's Labyrinth check out also The Devil's Backbone. Oh, and how could I forget The Thing? From Carpenter I also liked In the Mouth of Madness. For more weirness you can watch Hausu (House). Phantasm is another 80s classic worth seeing.
