Dubspot - DJ & Electronic Music Production Institute Heads To SXSW

Dubspot is heading south to SXSW, Texas, for the first time this year. The New York based DJ and music production institute is bring their unique brand of cutting-edge education, and a host of parties, including TheWax Poetics / Dubspot Funk Aid For Africa & Haiti SXSW Showcase and Warper in Dub Party - all attesting to their deep involvement in the music scene, and their goal to engage and educate future generations of musicians from a wide variety genres and styles.

First, Dubspot will host an Interactive Music Center in their booth at the Gear Alley of the SXSW Music Trade show, on March 17th – 19th. The experience allow the public to meet some of the Dubspot crew, and top-notch instructors, including DJ Kiva, Matt Shadetek, and DJ OBaH. Free mini-tutorials will be available, on some of the finest production and performance gear around from M-Audio, Ableton, Rane/Serato, and more. Dubspot is also featuring a special M-Audio giveaway to celebrate their new partnership with Avid/M-Audio. Two winners will each receive a package containing over $1500 worth of gear, including an Axiom Pro 49 keyboard controller, a Fast Track Pro audio interface, a pair of BX5a Deluxe Studio Monitors, and a copy of Pro Tools 8 M-Powered. Entries may be submitted in person at the Interactive Music Center, or online, by emailing [email protected].

The
Wax Poetics & Dubspot Funk Aid For Africa & Haiti SXSW Showcase, is our first project with new partner Wax Poetics. Presented by Puma, and sponsored by Avid/M-Audio & Serato, along with partner charity NextAid, the event will see performances by Black Dynamite Sound Orchestra, Ocote Soul Sounds, Chico Mann, Jovi Rockwell, Grimy Styles, Keys N Krates, and Brownout, plus DJ sets from Rich Medina, DJ OBaH, Chicken George, J. Boogie, and Smiles Davis. Maker’s Mark are kindly providing drink specials, and Austin mainstays StrangeTribe Productions and Soul of the Boot Entertainment are managing promotional efforts – Be there! Scoot Inn, Thursday, March 18th, doors at 8pm.

Charitable donations will be accepted at the door, with all proceeds going to NextAid, and affiliate charity, SOIL, to help African orphans in need, and the country of Haiti during this time of extreme tragedy.

On Friday, March 19th, Dubspot is hosting a special SXSW edition of New York’s Warper Party, known for its embrace of unique and cutting-edge performance concepts. Held at Rabbit’s Lounge, from 7pm – 12am, the event will see performances by Matt Shadetek, Moldover, Martin Perna, DJ Kiva, Inside, Barry Cole, !Include, Nebulae, Starlynx, Sacco & Vanzetti, Lux Divon, Dreadbass Sound System, and Freebassbk. This event will be free to the public, and Austin Ableton User Group members will be eligible for some great giveaways.



Dubspot is also sponsoring the Bemba Soul Tribe World Groove on Tuesday, March 16
th, from 8:30pm – 2am, @ Momos.
Featuring performances by Chico Mann, Ancient Astronauts, Ocote Soul Sound System, Pleasuremaker & Senior Oz w/ John Speice Percos, Chorizo Funk, and Austin Piazzola Quintet.

Soul of the Boot Entertainment
is an Austin, Texas based independent entertainment firm owned and operated by Scott “Papa Chop” Romero. SOBE focuses on event management, artist development, promotion, publicity, booking, hospitality and all around music industry hustle. SOBE’s goal is to create rotating platforms of multicultural vibes that capture the true essence of musical expression. A hurricane Katrina transplant, Scott relocated to Austin and enrolled in the Commercial Music Management Program at Austin Community College. He has volunteered as event manager/liaison for SXSW since 2006 and is currently co-promoting events with Jeff Strange, StrangeTribe Productions.

StrangeTribe Productions
is an Austin, Texas based event coordinating and promotions company specializing in music, art and fashion. For over a decade, StrangeTribe Productions has graced the Austin social scene with an eclectic sound vibe, urban fashion and stimulating art. Founded by Jeff Strange, who is a local boutique owner (downSTAIRS Apparel), multi-faceted DJ and seasoned promoter.
